Watching Laine's game, it looks like he has actually regressed during the post-season. There are no improvements to his speed / agility at all to be found, and his shot is not the same anymore. Not a good times to be Jets fan.

5-2-1. 4th in the league in points, 6th by percentage with our top two lines have failed to get going. Yep. The sky is falling.

50 minutes per day is still more time on games than the current recommendations by most health organizations. If he started drinking it would help reduce his fortnite gaming. I think the jets should be looking into that option. Or paid escorts.
As you sit on here and watch netflix for four hours per day.

This team is so stacked you could take out any single player and it would still hang with any team in the league. It's a damn good time to be a Jets fan.

Wheeler and Scheifele both have 2 points 5v5. Seems like a team problem at the moment. They're winning regardless, so that's good.

He’s been good on the PP (3 goals, 1 assist through 8 games), but invisible at ES (0 goals, 1 assist, -3).

He’s a great player on a cold streak, even if the Jets do nothing I’m sure he’ll bounce back soon. But maybe juggling the lines is a good idea? Ehlers/Little/Laine sounds like a terrific 2nd line on paper, but it hasn’t been effective. Laine is a finisher, not a possession driver, IMO he’d work best with guys who can really dominate the puck, and get it to him so he can score. Could try swapping Laine and Wheeler, let Laine play with Scheifele and Connor? Think he’d do well there. Plus Wheeler is more of a creator/playmaker thank Laine, Little/Ehlers might do better with him too.

Listening to one of laines offseason interviews, a couple Jets fans had said they were concerned when laine himself said his training was just “going ok”

I thought maybe something was lost in translation, but he still looks like he’s skating in quick sand. I now see why these jets fans were quite concerned with laines personal comments on his offseason training (or lack thereof)

Why has he not taken the initiative of hiring an actual good skating coach?

I hope he makes his profile private and eases off it a bit (if he is really is spending several hours a day playing). Too much talent to blow.

EDIT: I'm going to be refreshing his profile to check every day now - he has already played a couple times today!

The kid worked hard and lost 15lbs this summer and is noticeably faster and more agile. He’s looking better then the start of last year and we know he came on strong mid to late last season. With Laine you never know when the hot streaks are coming

Outside of a couple of games the ice time distribution has been terrible. I give him credit for scoring as much as he does with the time he gets.

Little and Ehlers with him has not been ideal but 2 of their last 4 games have been very good. Laine was awesome against the Canucks and just ok against the Coyotes.

People expect too much and over hype things. At the same time his detractors exaggerate the massive holes they see in his game.

He has a great attitude and loves the game and enjoys playing in Winnipeg. That’s good enough for me.

Laine like the Jets could be doing better but is doing just fine. Team success before stats.

You should follow the posts before you say it's stupid to ask!! Go back and read what Beukeboom said and You'll understand. He brought Mathews into the conversation just to take a pot shot at him. Kinds stupid for you to ask me don't you think?

Laine underperforming this year could actually be good for Jets cap structure and long term cup chances.

I don't think you've actually watched him this year. His skating is vastly improved.

You make it sound like he is completely useless. Curious, if Laine was offered to Toronto what players would you not trade 1 for 1 to get him on your roster?

Laine could be pretty effective with a center like Matthews. Would not trade 1 for 1:

Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly

Shhh now, don't you know that professional athletes train 12 hours a day, spend 3 hours shooting the puck, and one hour for all the eating per day. Then they sleep 8 hours for perfect, revigorising rest. Rinse and repeat. If they play really well, they might get to watch TV for 15 minutes that day.

It's hilarious to see people have no clue how much free time a young hockey player without a family can have

Scheifele and Wheeler aren't exactly lighting the world on fire yet.

That seems to the typical refrain (excuses or deflection). A lot of resistance to any kind of criticism towards Laine. I mean, we're at the point now where the spin doctors are explaining away his lack of production/effort with some fairy tale of two-way play and "efficiency." Lol.
