Dubas likes to use bonuses too, which we haven’t really seen yet at the NHL level because he’s new, but I could see a little bit of fancy incentives with a base salary lower than expected.

He would easily get 7M on the open market especially if he puts up another 50 point year. If he wants to stay a Leaf he'll have to take likely 2M less than that.
That would be shocking if Gardiner signs for $5 million. Do you think the Leafs would let him walk?

Ah, never knew that it was limited to ELCs and 35+. Assuming we’re talking performance bonuses and not games played bonuses or signing bonuses.

I just assumed because you see them on ELCs and Brodeur had them on his final contract (per save, per win, IIRC) that it was allowed in between. Guess not.
