I could live with Silver Knights.

Has anyone else reported that "LasVegasAces.com" was bought by MGM a few days ago? https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=lasvegasaces.com. Could be they plan to use it for a bar, club, casino, or something else. Still interesting though.

Interesting 0point1...
I remembered a while back that whoever owned LasVegasAces.com, had linked it to the SinBin blog.
I found that old discussion (May 19), and a link from that took me to eBay where the domain sale had ended on May 09, at an asking price of $150,000.

I'm still trying to figure out why they would have purchased the domain. If it's going to be the team name, I've got to think Foley would have paid for it and gotten ownership. The only thing that's a little weird is the timing, since it seems like it happened prior to the announcement.

It also doesn't work with the whole non-gambling thing. As much as we'll try to claim it's aviation related, it's obviously going to have a gaming angle. Plus, the Reno Aces.

I just don't see it. MGM owns a ton of domains (like thousands) perhaps they just wanted that one for the future. It's not a terrible investment, I guess.

As I mentioned, BB, In SinBin's May 19 article, Ken mentions the domain, and provides a link.
If you click it, it takes you to eBay, where (I think) the domain sold for $150,000?!
Am I reading that right?
If I am, that's a ton of money to pay for just speculation.

Before anyone gets too excited: There are already two trademarks on "Las Vegas Outlaws" owned by the Arena Football League that would prevent a hockey team from using the name without buying the rights from the AFL. Also, this was a fan poll not officially conducted by the team and was done just to generate pageviews and coverage for the team by the Review Journal.

I'm going to say if they're shying away from gambling motifs they probably won't want to go to one that is basically "murder for hire"

That would be more like Hitmen, which by the way Calgary has no problem with calling their junior team. Assassins can and often do act of their own initiative. Sometimes for political or religious reasons, sometimes because they just want to impress a cute Hollywood actress. ;)

Weren't the Calgary Hitmen named after Brett Hart. I thought he owned the team so it fit nicely.

Name will not be gaming related according to Foley and the league.

Very smart call as well. Can't be associated with gambling, regardless of the demographic. Man, I really wanted The Black Knights. Is that still an option?

So far, everything appointment, comment, direction Las Vegas has turned, in my opinion has been a winner, so I have faith they'll come up with something amazing :)

Exactly.

I'm sure it will be shortened to Vegas informally. I didn't mean to come across telling you how to name your team by changing the official name of your city, my apologies. I re-read my post and I can see how it came across that way. It was more meant as an observation that Vegas Knights/Aces/Crusaders flows off the tongue nicely. My bad for not articulating myself better.

Not racist at all, don't overthink it :). I actually like the idea of Crusaders as the name. With the Knight logo circulating, Crusaders as the team name fits the logo nicely.

Would absolutely love the name Crusaders. Incorporate purple and black colors of the old Cleveland Crusaders uniforms along with the red cross crusader shield as a secondary logo on the shoulders. An Ottawa-like logo in the image of Richard the Lion Heart would more than suffice as the primary logo.

Perfect. I can wear my Clevelans Crusaders jersey to the games.

Meh. I still don't like reviving dead franchises.

Also don't really like the name anyway. Too similar to Tampa only instead of being a cool lightning bolt we're just the loud sound that follows.

Dana Lane says Thunder. I tend to agree.

If Foley's getting raked over the coals for other names, stick with what's worked. Even with the obvious Tampa jokes.

http://sinbin.vegas/probably-wont-happen-but-thunder-might-just-be-the-perfect-name/

"Thunder" is good.
"Peregrines" is good.
"Wranglers" is good.
"Outlaws" is good.
They all sound O.K.

Are any of them the BEST?...No.

I see that the name poll is closed..."Aces"#1..."Knights"#2.

Bingo. The 2 BEST names for a Las Vegas NHL team are Aces and Knights.

I hope the NHL gets over its hypocrisy of putting a team in a city with a rich, historic, and dynamic gaming heritage, but not allowing anyone to acknowledge the "G" word.
Really?? You're gonna put a 3-ton elephant in the room and order everyone to ignore it??...C'mon.
The NHL feels that the gaming thing won't be an issue, and it won't...But if it does become a problem...it won't be because of the team name.
I get that the NHL doesn't want something like this...

There's a happy medium somewhere (Aces with the aviation twist).
This self-imposed game-name ban is just robbing Vegas of the best name it could have...."Aces".

...and "Knights/Black Knights" gets a best-name nomination because it's what Foley wants.

I think it should come down to "Aces" vs. "Knights"...

and it's all here in this 62 page concept book..."Knights & Aces"

Here's a few pages from the above link...
