My complaints are not even about Hyman himself, it's about the situation that he is in. If he was a 3rd or 4th line PK specialist, I probably wouldn't even notice him that much out there. He is being put in a situation that is way over his head. I think as we get better, we'll have players slotted more appropriately.

oh don't get me wrong, I want Hyman on the leafs his entire career in a 3rd line PK energy role where he belongs. He is very good for his role he is just way over his head offensively,

Babcock has indicated that "Leivs" is sitting because they like Sosa on the PK. Whatever. Someone else can sit a few.
But having the stats Hyman does on that line should say it all.
There are some that think he is "elite" on the forecheck. Even if that were true it doesn't mean a whole lot when you can't do anything with the puck and lose it.
Babcock has his pets and makes up rules and reasons for people playing/not playing as he goes

didn't watch this one but some highlights and maybe the defense was bad but Andy can't let that puck to through the crease on goal 1 or let that blueline wrister go through him on goal 3.

happy for reimer, especially after we annhiliated him last time.

Do you think Babs wants to sit Hymand for Leivo, but Hyman brings it every shift and he doesn't want to send the wrong message re:effort ?

he will never sit, even though even hymans effort has slowed a little lately. Leivo did everything right to stay in the lineup he can be slotted into all of babcocks stupid sayings "play fast, play right" "be a good pro" blah blah, it is very clear it is one rule for one guy another for a different guy

He doesn't have to sit Hyman necessarily. A line shuffle and sitting Soshnikov would probably be in order. Ideally Martin would be sitting though.

I get that Soshniko kills penalties but I think you can put someone like Kadri on the PK instead and have similar results.

Leafs were flattered by only giving up 7 in this one. Could have been double digits. Rielly and Zaitsev being on for 4-5 goals each as our top pairing .. Yikes !! :amazed:

The quality scoring chances Panthers had 10-15ft straight down mainstreet uninhibited to bast away only to miss the net.

Florida playing their 4th line Thornton and Co. on PP in the 3rd just rubbed more salt in the wound and showed sympathy to a humbled opponent on this night.

A Leafs win could have put the Panthers season on ice, but now with only 5 points gap they feel they have playoff life still.

Panthers are still cooked. 71 points 14 games remaining. They need 10 wins. Won't happen.

I don't know why Sosh has to be that player. Sosh and his line was the only line that was good last night. This kid works hard, plays the game with tenacity and has a descent scoring touch. He also has speed and a great forechecker. Sosh would have scored 10+ goals this year had he given opportunity like Hyman and Brown is getting on PP. Why is Brown on PP?

I fail to see what everyone sees in Brown. I get it he has 15 goals but he's an dud as far as I am concerned.

Last night was a prime example of how teams around the league are adjusting. They all go after Matthews. I love the way Florida is developing Barkov. Put him with a vet like Jagr to teach him about the game and take some pressure of him

In my opinion, Komo would benefit playing with Matthews and vice versa. komo played international levlel, high level games, some net presence and does have the some hands. He's also a left handed shooter and can hold on to the puck along the boards

Brown does everything Soshnikov does but better. He has with the Marlies and he has with the Leafs. Brown works just as hard and has more skill overall. Only thing Soshnikov might do better is that he's faster.

Komarov might be better but it isn't ideal. He does well with Kadri anyway, so not sure why you want to change that. Leivo to me makes perfect sense to play with someone like Matthews.

Matt Martin should be sitting above anyone else. Not much impact on special teams or even 5 on 5. Hyman could do what he does on the fourth line.

Agreed, they cooked their own goose with their recent loosing streak.

However for them it seemed they were more motivated to make the playoffs last night.

I will respectfully disagree. There's nothing in Brown's game that's better than Sosh. Brown just given more opportunities to excel. The skill is very evident and clear. I am not suggesting that Sosh is next Kovalev, but I am pointing how can you make that argument when one was given more opportunities to succeed and other hasn't?

Sosh for all the games this year, has played with Martin and Smith. In between some games with Gauthier and Boyle on limited basis

Brown played majority the year on Matthews and Kadri's line.

Right now we are in playoff hunt, we go with the players that are hot and contributing

I don' remember a single positive shift from Brown last night. Then again I can make that case for 10 other players

Nothing better? Ok. I mean, you can disagree all you want but Soshnikov hasn't done anything to suggest he's better than Brown. Not in the AHL or the NHL. You can see what you want though, I can't argue that.

Soshnikov was given plenty of chances in a top line role last season with the Marlies and got demoted everytime. He doesn't see the ice well at all. He likes to shoot and he's a feisty player but can't do much else. He's been surprisingly good on the PK to his credit. He's a really bad passer and doesn't really make plays with the puck offensively outside of shooting a puck. Brown is a fantastic passer with good overall offensive abilities. He works just as hard and makes a lot of smart plays at both ends of the ice.

I like Soshnikov a lot and he's been a great find but I cannot comprehend how someone can say he's better than Brown outside of speed.

Ding Ding Ding !

If you allocate Brown / Nylander 50-50 to Matthews and Kadri

Bozak Line 41 ES goals
Matthews Line 43 ES goals
Kadri Line 34 ES goals

Pretty balanced attack if that was the coaches intention for what was projected to be a bottom 5-10 team.

Goal 1: Player left completely open 2 feet from the net, other player allowed to make a pass. No stopping that as a goalie.

Goal 2: Complete team breakdown, player left alone on breakaway.

Goal 3: Completely screened from seeing anything, Leafs can't clear guy in front of net.

How you blame Freddy here is idiotic. He was not the main problem, this team can't play defence.

Goal 1: Freddy was knee down hugging the post as if Huberdeau was going to shoot from that near impossible angle. He then attempted a half-assed poke to intercept the pass, which of course failed miserably. As a goalie, you cannot allow a pass from that distance to go through the crease

Goal 2: Disaster indeed.

Goal 3: Did not fight to see through the screen, and he was too deep in the crease.

He definitely was not the main problem, but he contributed as much as anyone else. That first goal was bad. It was an off game for everyone. It happens.

I didnt blame Freddy. I just assumed he was bad since he was pulled after 8 shots. I havent seen anything from the game (it was
Played in the middle of the night for my location). I just wondered why nobody talked about goalies after 7 goals allowed - that told me that skaters must have been historically bad

Well, once Freddy was pulled you couldn't expect McHelhiney to pull any miracles. There were bigger problems than the goalies last night.

1st and 3rd goals should have been stopped by Freddy, no doubt.

babcock didn't pull him for no reason.

1st? that is a stretch. While he wasn't his sharpest factoring in we have only 2? b2bs left getting him rest whenever possible is also a factor

Early goal followed by Zaitsev's "sowcow" for the shorty and you knew it wasn't going to be their night.
