Matthews pointless in 6 and there's been only 1 common factor in each of those games... Not going to say it but holy **** do we have the most stubborn coach in hockey? Starting to feel like Babs is the Phil Jackson of hockey trying to force the triangle offense down our throats when everyone and their grandma knows that doesn't work anymore.

Wow.
7 goals against. A pulled goaltender.
And no one has even mentioned the goalies in the post game thread. Remarkable, were the skaters THAT bad...

They will bounce back next game, hopefully Freddy will as well

No more days off for this team. They're all posting pics on Insta relaxing on the boat and then they come and play like this? Absolute disgrace.

This is the most disgusting game I've watched since last season. I hope the Leafs got it out of their system, they're in a f******** playoff race. At least put in the f****** effort.

You know, when he said there would be pain, I'm not sure if he knew what kind it would be. He probably thought years of losing.

To me, I am thinking pain is having rookies come in flying, and then watching their ego's get a bit too big, and when the game tightens up in the playoff race, watching them get their ***** handed to them.

They almost need to miss the playoffs. They need to see this effort won't do, and they aren't as good as they think they are yet. Now, some of this is 100% on the coach, as he hasn't changed the lines at all this year, and scratches weird players as well.

Time for them to lick their wounds. The key to being a good team is knowing that you are good, but any team can feed you your lunch any night. This is why guys with 3 cups are busting their ***** in Chicago right now when they don't have too.

I'm not sure how this will work, but Babcock is at fault for us missing the playoffs just as much as the team with his bad line choices, and bad decisions in OT and the shootout.

Hyman needs to get off Matthews line ASAP. I don't care how hard he works, the team needs a shake up and just shifting Nylander/Marner/Brown on and off Matthews line doesn't work. Get the black hole off the line. Get Leivo in the lineup it's absolutely ridiculous that he continues to sit. I sincerely hope Marchenko is hurt and that's why Marincin is in because Marincin has been god awful since coming back in. He was decent at the beginning of the year but he's getting walked on a shift by shift basis.

None of this was on the either of the goalies. Andy should've had the third goal but the rest were tic tac toe back door tap ins and a SH breakaway.

If Hyman and Matthews are so inseparable why are they not producing? Get a grip Babcock and make some changes. Why is Leivo sitting?

Why is there no one from the press asking these questions?

Unfortunately I was able to watch the game in six this morning....sometimes they really need to black those out too...wow. Anyways, Rielly's lack of hustle on the 4th goal was absolutely embarassing for a $5 million dollar defenseman. BRUTAL.

If I had a Reilly jersey I would burn it. Wow.....

That was the worst game of the season.

Also the worst game that I've seen Rielly play in the NHL. He stopped skating midway through the 1st period. Pathetic.

Hopefully this is the warning that gets them playing with a little more urgency. Better to have this game now than in their potential playoff position elimination game later.

Yikes is right. I've totally lost any confidence that I ever had with Reilly's defensive abilities. He used to be an explosive skater (Karlsson type) offensive player. That I could live with, but he's not even that anymore. Not sure if Babs has put the leash on him in that regard, but he sure as heck can't play defense. Our defense is beyond a mess.

Rielly was and is never going to be a Karlsson type skater. He's still good though but after his injury it's tough to put much on Rielly. He's clearly not 100% but even an injured Rielly is better than the other options. We have no depth on D.

He can play D just fine, it's tough to blame the guy getting the toughest match ups.

Ideally, you would like to have one defenseman better than Rielly at the top of the pile so everyone goes down to their proper roles. Either that or just wait till Rielly grows into the role. He's a baby compared to the age when defenseman hit their primes. Not everyone is Subban, Karlsson, Doughty etc.

Majority take time to develop. Look at the Burns that the Wild traded and the one the Sharks have now. Night and day. Look at the Stralman the Leafs traded and the one in TB now.

I really hope the Leafs don't miss the playoffs because they're really entertaining and I just can't imagine the excitement there would be in a 1st round series.

Next 4 games are going to be really tough with the Lightning, Hawks, Bruins and Jackets. I'm pulling for you guys and I'll probably get up to watch the game against Tampa !

Judging by Steve Dangle's Panthers post game video I can only sympathise with how you're all feeling.

Goal 1: Player left completely open 2 feet from the net, other player allowed to make a pass. No stopping that as a goalie.

Goal 2: Complete team breakdown, player left alone on breakaway.

Goal 3: Completely screened from seeing anything, Leafs can't clear guy in front of net.

How you blame Freddy here is idiotic. He was not the main problem, this team can't play defence.

Bad game and Leafs Nation is losing its mind.
Relax guys, we've gone from dead last to a middle of the pack team. Losses happen, shake it off and Go Leafs Go.
We are light years away from paper bags over our heads.

If you're actually pinning this loss on Hyman being glued to Matts give your head a shake

Guess everyone needs a scapegoat

Let's pretend that it's totally fine, right? It is still maddening. Even in wins I am frustrated. It's not the chief problem, no, not at all but it is one of the problems.

I agree, I try not to complain about hyman too much (it is a lot ill admit that) so I don't say anything when we win and try to tail it back a bit even after loses now. In doing that you see posts like "only after a loss is hyman a problem" "pinning this loss on hyman give your head a shake". It is infuriating that a player as talented as Matthews has had to carry Hyman around for as long as he has, Hyman isn't really as good as babcock says he is at the things he gets praise for. He very really gets the puck for Matthews he is incapable of simple passes.

I guess the other thread was right.
Offense does win championships.
We need more scoring.

Nah .. The 7-0 drubbing LA gave them at home in early November was.

This is up there though.

Didn't watch this one, but why is everyone complaining about Hyman? On paper it looks like our "shutdown" line completely failed us. Kadri -5, Zaitsev -4, Rielly -3

My complaints are not even about Hyman himself, it's about the situation that he is in. If he was a 3rd or 4th line PK specialist, I probably wouldn't even notice him that much out there. He is being put in a situation that is way over his head. I think as we get better, we'll have players slotted more appropriately.

Heh.

No one is blaming Hyman for this loss or even any losses so far. I think the frustration is that we're sitting a player that has played very well in his short stint for a player that literally has 2 even strength points in the last 40 games. This is asinine. And this isn't exaggerated. Hyman has 2 even strength points in the last 40 games, and hasn't assisted on a Matthews goal in about 3 months.

Hyman can play and he would have a place on this team or any other team in this league. He's a solid player... but Babcocks decision to leave him on Matthews wing is definitely worthy of high criticism. You have Leivo who had 9 points in 12 games sitting for what again?
