Subban-Severson pair was solid tonight.

Severson had a quiet night, however he did a good job defensively. He saved a sure goal by tying up the Rangers player right in front of the net when it was 3-2.

IMO, his best game this season.[/QUOTE]

Damning with faint praise, but I'll agree - he and Subban didn't suck out there.

You can't make this up. :D

Wood....backside....

The joke speaks for itself.

Glad he was there, and glad he got the goal or Jack would still be pointless.

TOI for defense was a bit odd:

Subban 26:52
Vatanan 21:23
Mueller 19:25
Severson 18:02
Butcher 13:43
Tennyson 11:44

Seems to suggest the staff doesnt have much faith in Tennyson defensively.

Butcher left the game and they had to go five the rest of the way.

Hall needs to find his game back if we want a shot at the playoffs. He’s been ok at best

@BenedictGomez , Tennyson has really come on and taking advantage of the opportunity he was given.

He's played pretty well though I'm not sure if that's a compliment toward him or an indictment toward our own Defensive-woes...

Oh and okay.....OOOKAY.....I will admit it : ROONEY played well. (as much as I hate to say it 'cause I'm not a fan of him)

EDIT : BTW, I am glad that you won't have to disappear....just yet. :D

Take the win and run, but it wasn't pretty and the PP still sucks.

Yuppp. And I see people on here and elsewhere acting like this was a strong win. No issue with being happy they won, but I've seen people calling this a "complete" game and "how they need to play every night."

All the problems that existed in the previous games still occurred today. I only saw the first two periods, but wasn't impressed. Team routinely gets confused/lazy on defensive assignments, struggles with transition game, can't cycle, and gets cycled on.

Team can only score off broken plays. Still can't cycle AT ALL in the ozone. PP still looked bad. Pk did look better tho (both the kill and the person).

I think this plays both ways. Was this a great game by the Devils? Maybe not. But the Jets game and the Oiler games were not terrible either. This one we happened to win, those game we did not.

I'd also say that Wood Rooney and Hayden did work the corners well in the Ozone. As did Coleman Zajac Simmonds.

If you expect Gusev and Bratt to be cycling teams into submission, well your expectations are off.

I tend to disagree here. This game looked very good from the arena. They were making plays, keeping posession, transitioning well off the rush, generating chances evem on the kill, multiple times. It seemed every penalty kill had at least 1 solid chance generated offensively, per kill.

Maybe the stats didnt show it, but this game looked pretty solid from the eye test, imo.

Defense was parricularly in groove today with the forwards providing support as needed. Rangers were botching some plays, but Devils really looked sound team tonight.

I sure hope they keep it for Saturdays game too.

I didn't see all the same tendancies as those other home games. Prior home games they often couldn't string a breakout play and would turn it over in dangerous transition areas. That happened a lot less this game.

So Rooney has cemented his spot in the lineup? Boqvist needs to suck it up and accept an AHL assignment. Would be good for his development and he can be the first call-up when injuries to skill players happen

You missed their best period so you can’t really give a good summary. They dominated play in the 3rd after th goal, outshot them 15-6 and were forechecking like crazy.
