Even if it takes time to gel, guys should still have played in a structured enough environment to have an idea of where they're supposed to be.

Furthermore, there's no excuses for Hall-Hischier-Palmieri or the combos of Butcher/Seves/Greene/Vats. They've been together for 2 years now in the same system.

The only guys playing to potential is Zajac and Coleman. Schneids has been good, but why, for the love of God, can't these guys be protecting Schneider's long side. He give up too many rebounds. It's been a problem since Hynes has been here

Zajac played for good coaches for most of his career for most part who had very structured systems, which explains why he usually never looks really lost. He has solid coaching coached into him. Hynes can't mess him up.

Hall on other hand, never had a good coach (unless you count Hynes as one).

Palms didn't look good in opener either, not sure what is going on with him, hope he didn't hit his expiry already, he's not even old yet. Coleman is just solid all around, like Zajac, which is why no one has a problem with Coleman as a fan. He's like a model old school NJD player of past. Gritty, defensively sound, good offensive instincts when needed, utilitarian. Hard to mess up a player who is sound like that (like Zajac).

They look horrible, there’s no question about that. I personally think it’s on the big money guys to grab the team by the bootstraps and get this thing picked up and going.

Nico has been a tremendous disappointment. Hall has done nothing for a guy looking for Panarin money. Subban has been terrible for a 1D. Vatanen, Butcher and Severson need to break the puck out with tape to tape passes and transition effectively, etc. I think these are much more important factors than Hynes’ “system,” but that’s just me.
Yes they all just turned into sucky players who barely look like they should be in the AHL by sheer coincidence. You realize this explanation is doing the opposite of what you intend?

Congrats, I played juniors as well. I’ll side with the NHL head coaches, USNTDP and Devils hockey ops who think Hynes is a great coach.

Many a "great" coaches in lesser leagues don't cut it in the NHL level.

Outside of a three month stretch in early 2017, the team has consistently looked over matched, regardless of talent.

I thought there would be a "figuring it out" period with the new additions, but I never imagined we'd look this completely inept.

The obsession with Stevens isn’t an answer here. They need experience if a switch happens.

Can we at least bring him as an assistant? This D needs some serious help. He's been an assistant forever anyway, so its not as if he's new to the NHL world of coaching, either, so I wouldn't cast the "lack of experience" net with him. He was assistant under a number of good coaches right?

I still don't understand why nearly every player (except maybe Travis) decides it acceptable to pass/cut through the front of the goalie, especially when pressured.

For f***s sake.

Didn't his daughters graduate now so they're not at home or something and he's no longer "missing out" on the dad thing? I think he's the one I heard that about last year.
Yeah that's why he hasn't been coaching. Not sure how old his kids are now though or even if he wants to coach at all.

Yep, the wheels usually don't fall off when teams are building chemistry.

The wheels fall off on teams that have a bad system or a system that opponents can easy outcoach, or a system that's too convoluted for its own team.

@RSeen : "Not sure if I even want to see what McDavid does to us tomorrow "

Damn. For some reason, I thought we were facing the Rags tomorrow.

Took a look at the schedule, saw it was Edmonton and I was like "Connor is going to at least have a Hat trick against us tomorrow".

This may get ugly, folks. :baghead:

It's been pointed out on here before but Zajac and Coleman are the types of players who will do fine under any system, coach, team etc. Every night I'm confident they will come out and play their game and work their asses off. They may not have 82 solid games a season but it's rare that they cost the team in any way. Going back to last year there have been tons of issues with our compete and effort levels, guys not looking ready to play, sloppiness, etc. While it's partially on the players they need a solid coach to guide them. Look at Kovy before he came here compared to 2012

Zajac is smart enough to know what to do, and Coleman is getting to be the same way. Reliable if nothing else. Never have complaints about Zajac doing something stupid, he's usually the one trying to hold things together.

People *****ed about Pete at the end of his tenure, but at least the team typically grinded out our 2-1 loses and made the opponent work for it.

Plus the team had absolutely 0 firepower after 2013.
Pete was a fine coach with the wrong team. Good for playoff teams, not so much with rebuilding ones. I'd gladly take him over Hynes right now

I get what Lack is trying to say, but this is really bad. Old and new guys are playing bad. Special teams is an absolute tire fire.

There is only so long you can wait. Especially playing like this. If they were in all these games it would be different.

They need to get a result tomorrow night f they want to be a little more patient. They need to show some progress and get results or the season could spiral.

How many more times are we going to say stuff like this? same thing was said in game 1 to game 2 and same thing was said for over the weekend and we got the same exact results and I'm not even talking about the score, just how they're playing.

Five to ten games. Sunday the earliest is when he could be fired and they would have to lose the next two badly.

Ironically Hynes is kind of the opposite. I think he's a decent coach for a rebuild, but once you need to start competing you need somebody else.
