Good game, Blues fans. I should have expected nothing less. The series has been been balanced, the first four games were balanced, the fifth game was balanced, and that you won in "virtual overtime" and not "fiat overtime" shouldn't change the fact that this has been exactly the way a series should have panned out when A. for the first time in my degenerate gambler life, sportsbooks were literally split on who was the (slim) favorite and B. such is the reality of whole numbers that after 5 games, one of these two evenly matched teams HAS to be ahead.

See you all on Saturday, and hopefully on Tuesday after.

Full disclosure: Today has been hellish. Learned a friend for a decade plus passed away unexpectedly last night. Had to work all day.

And for some reason, I stuck with this game, even if that :12 goal felt like a pretty good sign to just keep crying.

Thank you, Blues. Thank you.
Hope things get better for you my condolences on the loss of your friend.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I don't know what to say to that. If the vagaries of fortune in a pro sports competition has given you some consolation and perhaps some reason to find hope amid hopelessness, then hell, you needed this win more than I did.

May your friend now begin to rest in peace and may you return to a center in time to enjoy game 6, for all it might bring.

How is the end of the 3rd considered OT now? I are confused.

Blues post-game audio:

Players: Pieterangelo, Schenn & Schwartz

Coach Berube: Comparing the first 40 to the last 20. Play of Jordan Binnington. Making the change at the top of the lineup. How good does it feel to make a change and see it pay dividends? What was the mindset after the 1st period? Play of the Blues special teams. Blues adjustments on the PK to take away Scheifele and Laine. How big was the four minute kill? Osker Sundqvist's development. On the road teams winning every game. Does he see any significance in the two guys (Schenn & Schwartz) who contributed today? Bortuzzo not playing. What did he think of Gunnarsson?

To listen click here.
Crap. Sounds like Bortz was a healthy scratch and Chief was impressed with Gunnar. Not happy with this development.

I put it in quotes cause it's a full expression --"virtual overtime". As in, when there's 1 minute left in the third period in a tie game, if someone scores in that last minute, they're what, 99%+ likely to win the game? As opposed to if they score at any time during overtime when they're 100% likely to win the game.

You know, like when announcers will say very late in the third in a tied game that "it's essentially 'next goal wins'"?

I.E. your chances of winning the game by scoring at 59:45 versus scoring at 60:15 differ by basically nothing.

EDIT: compare with my other phrase, "fiat overtime", as in, one was "overtime in all but name only" whereas the other was "just as much overtime as the 59:45 mark, but here it's declared officially as such".
