Yesterday Atkins was quoted as saying that they are close to a FA signing. Has anything been mentioned since? Who could this possibly be?

The article I read stated they were heavily engaged in Lance Lynn talks. Good or bad?
Charlie morton was rumored to be close to signing. He could he had on a short term deal

With the Rockies going after Santana or Edwin, I seriously hope the Jays are on the phone with the Rockies talking Justin Smoak packages.

Smoak is ~8mil this year I believe Vs Santana at 40mil/2 and Edwin at 20mil/1. Smoak is cheaper, produced a better wRC+ than both last year, and is at least comparable defensively with Santana and certainly better than EE.

I have to say, I'm mystified by the people upset by Tulo's release. Letting him go now is the most logical move for both player and team and it's not even close. Perhaps those that are bent out of shape about this are typical "casuals" who react with outrage anytime anything happens (or doesn't happen) that remotely involves the Jays.

The last thing this organization needed was the Spring Training of Tulo. Is he healthy? Can he play? Will he play? What is going to happen? Will he be a distraction? Nobody needed a scenario like that. Not Tulo. Not management. Not the other players on the team.

No other team was going to trade for a player who hasn't played since July 2017 and is owed almost $40 million. The release gives Tulo plenty of time to go and find a deal with another team to resume his career and lets the Jays spend spring training evaluating the young players in the system/on the roster.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw those reports. The Rockies should be all over Smoak right now.

Also, can anybody explain what is happening in Cleveland? Are they tearing down? I keep seeing they want to trade Kluber and others. Are they retooling? Do they think there window is over?

Shapiro and Atkins did it so it has to be bad.

Seems like they still want to win (which makes sense given they have a couple superstars and a bunch of other really good players) but they've been forced to cut payroll, so they're trying to trim things wherever they can while still being competitive.

It just feels like a weird way for a team that won its division by 13 games last year to be behaving. It makes more sense if it is predicated by payroll issues.

I am fascinated to see how it turns out. I have to admit, there is something refreshing about Cleveland's approach. They took their shot for a couple of seasons, came close, but it didn't work out and now they're going to try and bring in some prospect capital for some of their veterans with some production left.

Im guessing the Jays actually want some tangible return from the Rockies, while Colorado could basically get either one of Santana or EE for basically nothing.

I figured we'd be looking at Gurriel Jr and Urena to take over the reigns at SS, but that tweet suggests otherwise.. anyone interested at bringing back Hechavarria or picking up a guy like Galvis to fill the void?

Has Campbell been right about anything since Zaun left him?

We regularly get complaints from fans about management not saying enough, saying too much, not being honest enough, being too honest, and sounding too corporate.

Seems like people just like to complain, and people particularly like to complain about Not Beeston Shapiro and Not Anthopoulos Atkins.

I'm good with the Yankees doing 3. I think that's a year too much. Could be wrong of course, but nice when they have dead money on the books, somewhat limits their otherwise endless resources.

It’s always funny to see the outrage over Tulo’s release when they guy has only played 66 games over the past two years.

Also, apparently Tulo’s agent said he’s willing to switch positions, which is funny because Tulo said like a month or so ago that if he wasn’t the SS there’s no point of him being on the team.

He wanted out, the Jays wanted him out
Win-win
But I won't be sure bout things until I see what Stroman has to say on Twitter

Agent knew there wouldn’t be many, if any suitors interested in him as their #1 SS on their depth charts going into 2019. The only team that I could see doing that is Pittsburgh, but then is that really better than playing 2B in his hometown area (A’s).

Alex Anthopoulos surprised Blue Jays released Troy Tulowitzki - Sportsnet.ca
“Definitely a surprise,” Anthopoulos told Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas, where the Winter Meetings are taking place. “Obviously I haven’t been there for the past three years so it’s hard to know what’s been going on there.”
“I can only speak from my two months with him,” Anthopoulos said of Tulowitzki. “No errors, stabilizing our defence. Getting out of the Jose Reyes deal at the time was [also] pretty important for us."

“But I think he’ll land on his feet, just knowing him, he’s a complete pro, I won’t be surprised to see him bounce back, and hopefully things will work out for him.”

As much as I like Smoak I have to agree that he should be moved now. I have to imagine there'd be pretty good value coming back. Could Tellez and Morales platoon at first? Or could Tellez handle it full time?

It doesn’t really matter imo.

Between those 2, Martin (if he stays), even a guy like Teoscar, or a cheap FA, we can stick someone at 1st. We should be adding assets at all costs, without worrying to much about the ‘19 lineup.

I asked my father (Tigers fan) for his opinion on the release, and I quote:
It's stupid. Tulo's good for 20 home runs a year! They'll only get maybe 8 out of Gurriel!
When I asked him how many Tulo had last year, he said he didn't know; Tulo was hurt last year.
