VK needs to add atleast 15 lbs to his frame before he can realize his full potential. 6’4 180 is an absurd weight to play at in the national league. Its pretty well known that the russians still rely on calisthenics and body weight exercises. On chiclets i remember a few who have played there literally saying they would warm up with jumping jacks and other archaic exercises. Most have never seen a bench press or squat rack. Not sure why howden gets chirped on a vk thread but that kid was objectively ripped up after training with kreider and prentiss going into this season, definitely way further along in terms of transforming his body. Buch was getting knocked down every single shift in his first few go arounds. He’s clearly built a more compact frame and thus was more confident/willing to be the hammer not the nail this year.

Great awareness by Kravtsov and another close to 100% chance by his teammates missed. He passed and drove straight to the net causing defensemen to back down which created space for the high man to get a puck with lots of space to set up for a (missed) empty netter.

Almost got another assist. His high danger chances creation got to be through the roof.

If Alex Nunn is making Kravtsov video with all the cuts from this game it should be a dandy.

I’m not worried about him adding weight.

If you’re expecting him to be 230 pounds you’re going to be waiting until he retires.

But 200-205 isn’t far-fetched.

Probably he winds up somewhere in the middle by the time he hits 25-26 years of age. My guess is 210-220.

Putting on weight is so freaking overblown. In the modern game less weight is better. He's going to fill out naturally.

Russians are like any other kids, some are man-strength younger and some are not. They train as hard if not harder than anyone.

Edit: Strength can easily be attained without putting on too much weight was my central point. He's going to gain weight regardless as he fills out.

Well there goes the notion of making him a center. ;)

Overall, some pretty skating by both teams out there. Somehow i don’t see the future NHL playoffs displaying zero contact.

The celebration taps were the most contact.

Wrong on so many levels. Putting on weight is not overblown if it's muscle. Especially when you are a bigger player. You aren't going to duck, hide, slip out of contact like a smaller, low to the ground player can do. You are going to get hit and you better be able to take them and stay strong on the puck. Look at Kakko. He spent his first 45 NHL games getting knocked on his ass constantly. Once they started to improve his strength he started to generate a lot more chances and he was more physically developed than Kratsov was.

being too heavy is a negative these days, but being strong is still important. u dont put on mass for the sake of mass in todays NHL. it has to be functional. hes also grown 2 inches if he is indeed 6'4" now so he is still in the "growing into his body" phase.
