Barron and Kravtsov are not centers yet we are penciling them in as if we are gona throw some magic fairy dust on them and make them centers. They have very small sample sizes at the center position at lower levels/tournaments. Expecting them to be a center at the NHL level is an extreme long shot. Pretty much a pipe dream. Barron has been given more consideration but thats all he was given, consideration.

Its the same as the height argument. This guy is 5’2 but he can play in the NHL because Fleury and St Louis did it. Sure, it COULD happen, but a smart man isn’t taking that bet.

Hayes played primarily wing in college and converted to center in the pros. Sure, it’s possible a wing COULD develop into a center, but it’s foolish to bet on it. Try Kravtsov, Lafreniere, Kakko... etc... Hey, let’s try Miller, he’s big.

At the end of the day, it’s waaaaay more likely that another kid develops or they go outside the organization (most likely IMO).

It never fails to amaze me how people believe that switching to a different position or even a different side is so easy. Yes, Aho did switch to center. That makes it the exception and not the rule.

For some context, the second that the last 3 forwards for the Rangers were taken in the first round (Lafreniere, Kakk, Kravtov) did people around here start to migrate them to center.

ive been very very adament that it isnt as hard as people on here make it out to be....ive played hockey for 27 or so years....obviously not professionally but its not that hard to switch positions, ESPECIALLY when you have the skill that some of these players possess as well as the time to learn the position

Have you switched positions at the NHL level?

Idk about that. It’s relatively common for guys to be drafted as centers who project to the wing. When your the superior athlete in your peer group then it makes plenty of sense to put you in the middle so you handle the puck as much as possible. It’s not impossible, but it’s very rare that a player is drafted as a wing and moved to the middle. It’s a lot more responsibility and a different game being at center. When your no longer the superior athlete it’s a lot more difficult. It’s not unlike the offensive defenseman who people want to turn into a forward. You might have a rare example here or there, but it’s very uncommon. For years, fans wanted to try a guy like Kreider or any number of rookies at center and it never happens despite center clearly being the more valuable position. Why don’t all the more skilled players play in the middle?
