Hey, I’m a Washington Capitals fan coming in peace. I have a question. I would like to come up to St Paul for the Capitals/Wild game next month, my question is being an African-American fan would I be subjected to any kind of racism at the game? I’m not trolling or anything. This is a serious question given the kind of climate we live in now. I’ve been to several NHL arenas but I don’t want go somewhere where I’m not welcome.
You’re certainly welcome here, and I’m so sorry that this is actually something you have to consider when going to opposing arenas. I haven’t heard of any issues with racism at the X, and think you’ll be fine. But, as a white male, maybe that’s why I’m not exposed to that.

Hope you come out for the game!

You will not have an issue.

The life altering Floyd event has given the area some warranted and unwarranted attention. And certainly a lot of sensationalization that is simply not accurate. But as a visiting hockey fan, you will not be treated better in most any market. Especially as a person of color as this market does a lot to grow the game beyond the traditional means.

Don’t let certain perceptions or “news” organizations scare you, this is still a very welcoming community for all.

I don’t think you can guarantee that. Until racism/sexism/what have you is completely abolished there’s always a chance, unfortunately. That being said, there’s a very small probability of you having any issues.

The quoted member is accurate in the rest of what they wrote.

There is always that one idiot out there, but if such an incident were to occur at the rink then the idiot would be shouted down, not you.

Can't promise that you will be warmly received if you go to the EX all dressed up in a Cap's gear, and insist on doing a happy dance and high fives every time Ovi scores or there is a Wild penalty. Then it won't be racism, but just good old hockey hate. We are more genteel up here than place like Philly or BOS, but enough is enough. Even then, most of us will be more bemused than anything. It's not like you're an Avs fan.

BTW, kind of surprised by WAS's start. You look really, really, good.

Yeah honestly I wasn’t expecting much noise out of the Caps this season but if the first 2 months of the season is any indication we might be destined for more than a 1st Round playoff appearance. One can only hope. We’ll see. Any cool pregame spots I can hang out at before the game in St Paul?

Tom Reid’s Hockey Pub and Cossetta’s are the two spots and both will be packed so get there early. Both a block away from the X. Those would be the two most common and the two that visiting fans would want to check out.

Besides the ones mentioned above, others might mention some brew pubs(with food) nearby. Not my thing, but there should be a couple, if not more, within walking distance. SPL has a, "small town all growed up" feel. Pretty easy to get around on foot and find things, though the driving can be a bit confusing.

What is going with WAS? Is it more than Ovi playing like a 25 yo?

There’s a few breweries in the area that are quite good but a little more walking distance than what I would be comfortable with in the dead of winter. Ha

Let us know what you’re interested in and where you plan on staying and I’m sure we could give you plenty of recs.

When I went to TD Garden several years ago wearing a Wild jersey, everyone was incredibly nice. People would strike up friendly conversations, one woman offered to buy us a beer because you had to be 25 to buy beer with an out of state ID, and we were not. The only issue we had was this ~8-10 year old kid a few rows behind us who would glare at us every time the Wild scored (I think the Wild lost the game like 5-2, so I don't know what he was so upset about).

I’ll keep you posted. I’ll know something in about 2 weeks. Even if you’re a fan of the home team I don’t mind chillin with friendly hockey fans at all. Hockey is so underrated but amazing at the same time.

I’m actually planning on going to TD Garden the third week, I believe, in January for the Caps/Bruins game. My friends think I’m crazy for going but I’m on a mission to visit as many NHL arenas as possible. So, I’m not concerned one bit.

Sorry I’m just now replying to you. Don’t wanna make you think I was slighting you, yeah Ovi looks like he’s not missing a beat. Many people thought he was gonna take a step back but he’s playing like a rookie and I feel it’s just a matter of time before he surpasses #99. Despite the injuries and COVID everyone on the roster is stepping up especially Kuzy which many thought his best days were behind him but he’s playing like a Phoenix rising out the ashes. Lavi is a good coach the only thing I don’t like is Vrana getting traded away….

I’m going to that game too! Chances are .01% to none, I wouldn’t worry. Overall MN fans are pretty tame/respectful.

Hi all!

Habs fan here!

We are going on a MLB trip wich include the twins early may. And we noticed that the wild will be in the playoff so we hope they play on may 5th!

Just wanted to know if it is hard to get playoff tickets, and when/where is the best time/place to buy them when they go on sale?

Thank you!

yes theres scalpers. Stubhub will have tickets too. I honestly dont know if playoff tickets have been put on sale yet.

I don't think they have. They were recently advertising season tickets so people could get first dibs on playoff tickets. I would expect tickets to go on sale in the next 2-3 weeks.

Can't really go wrong anywhere in the Twin Cities.. It's considered the top metropolitan area in North America.

One day in Minneapolis (not St Paul), what’s the one thing I should do before I leave?

So it turns out the answer to this was Murray’s.

I could go on at length about lots of great things, but… the raspberry pie. Holy shit. I’ve had a lot of good desserts but that might be THE best dessert I’ve ever had at any restaurant, ever.
