I was reading that sportsnet article:

“We haven’t created any views other than it appears they’re going to build a building,†said Bettman. “If the circumstances were right at some point in time — it’s something if we were looking to either expand or relocate — we’d have to take a look at.â€

He doesn't know they are building it already?

Funny...

I think the funniest part is the implication that the NHL does no contingency planning whatsoever. I don't really understand how it benefits the NHL for GB to basically brag that the league will wait until the moment that a local sale in Phoenix is completely out of the question before even looking around to see what other options are available. That gives the impression that you're either stupid or lying. Obviously it's the second, but I still don't understand what he gets out of giving people those two opions by which to judge him.

Isn't it likely that people in Montreal and the rest of PQ would watch the Nordiques too? And unless they're playing at the same time, people can watch both the Nordiques and the Canadiens.

Non.

The hardcore habs fan will not watch Quebec. Same for the Nords fans, who won't (in fact are not and never) watched Montreal. Its called rivalry.

I am a good exemple. Since 1995, I am watching maybe 6 or 7 games a year. I watched a bit more the playoffs.

Before 1995, I watched certainly 80% of the Nords games on TV, and been at the Colisee couple times.

That said, I live 230 kms north of Quebec city.

Never been either at the Forum or the Bell centre.

That's not true, I'm sure many habs fans like me want to see the return of the Nordiques for the rivalry but also to have a second team in the province to watch. As a habs fan the nords would become my 2nd favorite team and I will cheer for them. So what because i'm a Habs fan I would have to hate the nords? I will when they plays the habs but after that I'm sure I'll secretly watch them  I did watch a few bruins games this season and I'm watching the bruins-rangers series. We're not in the 80s anymore, yes there will be a rivalry but people will watch both teams.

Has anyone considered what will happen to the new alignment should a the Coyotes move to Quebec? Obviously, at least one team is coming West. I'd hate to see Quebec be stuck in the Pacific, even if it's just for a year.

They can play in the Central, only one hour time difference! Just like the Jets :handclap:

Bettman is a lawyer.

Always have that in mind when trying to figure him out.

They will probably be stuck in the West for one or two seasons just like Winnipeg was. There is no way, after everything the Wings have done to move out of the West, that they'll accept going back west. It will be blocked by vote. Then you are stuck with Florida and Tampa which ironically depends on these eastern team to make some money and you can't logically just move one out of division.

Most likely scenario is status quo until they figure something out.

Let's keep track of important dates and events

May 22nd, 2013 : Réjean Tremblay reports that Quebecor hired accountants and lawyers to analyze the Coyotes (am I wrong?)

May 23rd, 2013 : Patrick Roy leaves Québec to coach the Avalanche after 8 years as the Remparts head coach. Régis Labeaume's back hurts:)laugh:). Pierre-Karl Péladeau does not deny the rumors reported on May 22nd, states that he doesn't "write the rules".
