People do realize that Vegas still retains his rights after these 2 years? The only difference is that the contract won't be entry-level.
CBA 9.1 (c) Notwithstanding the chart set forth in (b) above, a Player who at the time he was drafted was playing for a team outside North America or who meets the qualifications set forth in Article 8.4(a)(v) (a "European Player") who signs his first SPC at ages 25-27 shall be subject to the Entry Level System for one (1) year. A European Player who signs his first SPC at age 28 or older is not subject to the Entry Level System under any circumstances.
Actually Gusev would still need to sign entry-level contract if he comes to NA for 2019-20 season. He will be 27 years old that year and thus is still required to sign a one year ELC.
After the horrible way they mismanaged Shipachyov, getting Gusev to come is a tough task.
Or maybe he didn't deserve a spot coming out of camp. He did not look good in pre season, he didn't earn a spot and if McPhee were about giving spots away because a player was good in another league means he wasn't doing his job properly. So he sent him down to get playing time, he didn't want to go.After the horrible way they mismanaged Shipachyov, getting Gusev to come is a tough task.
Remember folks, their success that came with questionable sustainability is enough to totally justify the way they treated Shipachov.
I feel like Vegas will be an unpopular place for Russian players after the saga they had with Shipachyov.
Gusev is such a stud. Anyone that can convince him to come over would be hitting a home run.
Very surprised Tampa wasn't able to do so with all of the Russians on their team (and high end ones at that). Makes me think he has no interest in coming over.
This certainly didn't age well!Lol Vegas and GMGM are such a joke.
That's a good point. Not many open spots with such a young group.I would hate to be a prospect in Vegas...I'd never get to play.
I don’t know if this is possible, since it’d be Gusev’s first contract, but maybe since he’ll be 26... But if he had concerns of being treated like Ship, couldn’t they just sign him to a no movement clause to guarantee he won’t be put in the minors? Clearly he has the talent that he should never play there, but it could give him reassurance.
