This seems darned fair. Security for the player, discount for the team, coming at the right point in his development curve to warrant this sort of term/cap hit. He's not assured to be this good, but he could also exceed this level. It's a really good compromise.

Theodore's agent deserves an award.

Good young defender, but 7 years at veteran top 4 money is a huge win for Theodote after only 100ish NHL games and a single full season.

Vegas didn't get nearly the discount they should have for taking on this kind of risk. Does that mean it'll be a bad contract? Probably not. But Theodore left a lot less on the table to take the long term deal than most RFAs have done relative to their ability+potential+resume.

His agent absolutely deserves a reward. His client hasn’t even played out a full season and he negotiates this. Theodore better take his agent’s *** to the BunnyRanch as soon as the ink dries on the league fax printout.

If he doesn’t learn how to play in his own end there will be plenty to regret. He’s soft as butter and questionable defensively right now.
He hasn't finished growing in that regard but he was much better defensively than he was in Anaheim.

the length of the deal seems risky but still not too bad

they're pretty much hoping he reaches his full potential. the offense is there but his defense still leaves a lot to be desired

Really thought Vegas had more leverage but judging from McPhee's comments, it really seems they were insistent on a long term deal.

In any case, having Theodore back is huge. Brannstrom is close to being ready but he really needs AHL time to not get exposed so often. He had a good start to preseason but he teetered out. Bischoff will be good as a fill in for Schmidt for the time being.

He really propelled himself as their franchise defensemen for the moment. With Schmidt out a while, it made it even more paramount to get this done. This also keeps him locked in for this price and not something on a bridge that could have increased.

Think it's a good deal for both parties. Vegas believes in Theodore, and paid him a bit more now to get 7 years and eat up 3 UFA years.

Seems pricey for a guy who hasn't even got two full seasons under his belt. But then I remember the Sabres gave Eichel 80 million dollars. Pretty high on Theodore myself, think he might grow into this one pretty well.

So he gets Hampus Lindholm money after his ELC where he started the season in the AHL. Imho he is half the player Hampus is. Good for Theo.

Going to be a steal. If he can be a little more consistent he'll be a legit top pairing dman. And we know the going rate for top pairing dmen in their prime isn't and won't be $5.2M.

Really like this deal, he’ll be 30 when it’s done. Just entering his prime, nothing to regret here.

While that is true, not every player who does decently continues on an upward trend. If he continues at his current pace and doesn't get any better, this turns into kind of an ugly contract.
