Obvious statement is obvious. But the correct response to this transaction is who cares? Not "great asset management". As though it takes skill to get the lowest value return that is possible in a trade.
I legit laughed very loud at the last thing written, I thought it was brilliant."LOL Oilers what are you even doing?" Edmonton Oilers acquire the rights to Nolan Vesey from the Maple Leafs
You realize this means Dubas has Chia on speed dial, though.
When we get a pick, it’s a great thing.
When we give up one, it’s no big deal.
Is that how we are supposed to do it?
Who were you sitting on at #158?Waste of a pick drafting him
Yeah. Johnsson, Engvall, and Sparks. That's three 7th rounders in the last 6 drafts that look like they'll reach the NHL. And it's not like Korostelev look like a bad 7th rounder either. This is silly. If an asset is borderline worthless anything tangible in return is a net positive, Johnsson for example was a 7th round pick. Most draft busts don’t return anything at all.
I think the Leafs drafted Vessey in the first place, and hired his father for an office job, to woo the brother Vessey. That didn't pan out. They let go of the father and now Vessey. That is all.
The Leafs drafted Nolan in 2014 AND hired his dad on the off chance a current Predators prospect might use his UFA option 2 years later in 2016?
Getting a pick for nothing, giving up one for something.
Even you decriers should be able to spot the difference, it's not that difficult.
This.
It's a real minor trade but a major good sign.
Dubas is looking at every option, no matter how small or minor. He's also ready to go! Could be a great summer

Somehow, that's our area of expertise.
No, we just shared the same opinion and I thought his post was quite pertinent and deserving of a bump. A rare occurrence but as they say: even a broken clock is right twice a day.You needed Mike in Barfalo to tell you that?
Solid plan. I wonder if it will work.So random. I wonder if Edmonton is getting his brother from NY
I really don’t expect to get anything for prospects we no longer see upside in like Middleton, Piccinich and Mattinen recently, as loads of drafted players rights expire every year with no return for teams.
However just being able to get anything for a player we weren’t going to sign anyway and clearly didn’t see upside in is always a positive.
It’s laughable seeing posters criticize others for complimenting the trade, yeah it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s still a slick move from Dubas and it’s pretty much impossible to see it as a negative unless you saw NHL upside in Vesey.

Is it known that the Oilers didn't approach Dubas about this? This.

I would agree that seems more likely because why would a team give up anything for an NCAA drafted player if the team who drafted him didn't plan on signing them to an ELC deal, especially if they are going to become a UFA.Is it known that the Oilers didn't approach Dubas about this?
To me that seems more likely.
