Canucks fan here. Nice steal boys. Garrison is solid defensively. Has a slightly inaccurate cannon of a shot.

Just loving our Dmen eh? Ohlund, Salo, now Garrison.

What is cap hit for us? Is it the remaining average annual amount of his contract? Also can he drop gloves was he on top pair with Vancouver. Honestly don't know much about him.

That's a really good acquisition. Didn't even have to move a first, Purcell, Panik, or Connolly, so the trade chips are still there. Great work on Yzerman's behalf here.

4.6 Million is the cap hit.

I wonder if Yzerman is going to ship out Brewer + Purcell + 19th for something? Or he will give some other GM the death stare and end up with something Grand.

I think he was a second-pair D in Canucks but when he played for the Panthers, he was a top-pairing guy there and he showed that he can handle those minutes in 11-12 season.

He's an upgrade over Salo. That's the main thing. We got a free top-4 defenseman cheaper than we would have gotten one on Tuesday.

And let's not forget, 7ths are more valuable here than elsewhere.

Unless Stralman/Fayne or something is going to be coming in at somewhere only moderately higher than Brewer's salary (which I doubt), I'm not really sure this team is in position to be moving D's around. Acquiring Garrison helps fill one hole in a top-four position on the blueline. I'm not really sure it would be wise to move another vet at this point.

Of course, if we're talking a Connolly/Larsson sort of deal, which seems to be a very popular talking point, I suppose I wouldn't oppose that either. Whether it's practical is another matter altogether.

We might be able to afford that kind of deal now, and the timing might be right.

Love the trade, SFY strikes again!!!

Am I the only one who thinks we're still in need of another top 4 dman though?

Not a big fan of Garrison but I take the deal without thinking twice.

SFY does it again

My opinion as well. Wasn't very interested as I thought it would cost much more. If we only have to give up a second this year for a top 4 dman plus more assets, I do that every time

yzerman wanted the guy he goes two years to vancouver they cover majority of his pay and we wind up with him for NOTHING?

Are you serious? MIND BLOWN.

Anyone still questioning THE YZERPLAN OR STEVIE F YZERMAN?

Honestly I feel this is just unfair at this point.
Ya his money starts going down next season!! Goodness this was better then over paying for stralman. When I saw this garrison trade I thought I was dreaming when we only gave up the 50th pick!

Another thing to note is Rick Bowness coached Garrison in Vancouver back in the shortened 2013 season.

We still hold all our major chips too, if another trade presents itself. It actually feels like getting a gift. Usually trades hurt at least a little bit. This was a free defenseman.

Interesting that Garrison replaced Salo in Vancouver and now replaces him in Tampa Bay.

Garrison for a lower 2nd rounder? Freaking steal.

You guys are lucky lol. He's a 2nd pairing D-man on pretty much any team in the league.

Congrats :(
