And just say too bad to all the teams who were bad this year? What about Minnesota, who has two 2021 1sts?I highly support skipping the draft this year. But, don’t do two drafts. Change the draft age to 19
Yup. And combine teams’ records for the two seasons and they draft according to their regular season winning percentage - worst to first. Bottom 15 teams can do the lottery ball thing.Just cancel the draft and draft 19 years old next year

Good point. Don’t know how to remedy that. And teams who hold other teams picks this year get screwed, or?

Could the pick owed just be moved to the 2022 draft?
They were gonna throw them away anywaysBut that's the year you want to combine with the 2021 draft. So a team like Pittsburgh basically loses two firsts.
All teams will have a combined record that will be applied in 2022 to determine draft order, all picks that were traded will be moved an additional year, conditional picks (Example: if player x gets this many points the pick becomes a 2nd) will apply to the current season. And just say too bad to all the teams who were bad this year? A. Bad teams (all teams really) are losing a year of drafting to get an influx of young players into the system. That makes rebuilds take longer, prospect pools will thin out as players graduate to NHL.All teams will have a combined record that will be applied in 2022 to determine draft order, all picks that were traded will be moved an additional year, conditional picks (Example: if player x gets this many points the pick becomes a 2nd) will apply to the current season.
I don’t see what is wrong with this. Bad teams are still being compensated and it’s not like any one player is going to be drafted in 2021 and immediately make a team a contender.
Nope. Pretty damn stupid. This seems so bush league to me. Would any other professional league do this?
What happens to the Kraken in this scenario? They have to wait a full year before participating in a draft?

B. So teams like Pittsburgh who already don’t have their first are going to just have to accept that they don’t get a 1st for two years now?
C. What about the players that are ready to play in the NHL at 18?
Except, everybody is losing a year. That’s the thing. Every team will have one draft in a two year spanA. It will improve scouting making rebuilds faster
B. There might be one player in next years draft that will be NHL ready in the 2021-22 season so it doesn’t really effect any roster
C. Pittsburgh, along with every other team, won’t have a 1st this year. It has almost no effect on the team’s roster.
This change would definitely benefit bad teams. If the draft age was 19 you’d see guys like Barzal, Aho, Bergeron, etc drafted in spots they should be. That additional year is huge. Nobody is really losing a year. They are just pushing it to 2022. They are still getting the same players.
I was on the fence until I heard this. Let's do it!But that's the year you want to combine with the 2021 draft. So a team like Pittsburgh basically loses two firsts.
There isn't a book an inch full on players who haven't played at all this season (or barely have). Or are you unfamiliar with how much the draft lists change from D-1 to the draft year? The game is evolving to skills more and more so the draft age doesn't need to change. There's more room out there (and opportunity with 32 teams).
The idea of postponing the draft sounds unprofessional. There's a book an inch thick on these kids before they can shave today. GM's should just do their job.
Draft!
Like 2-3 players per draft even get NHL elc salaryIf you wanna move the draft age from 18 to 19 there should be a few things done
1. Increase the ELC salary I’d say 1 mil is fair. If the PA signs in on this then they’d probably require an increase in compensation which could persuade the PA.
2. I’d probably do it but have it start for the 2024 draft. Give it a few years to ensure that there is a decent prospect pool. If you just do it 2021-2022 prospects the teams in the bottom are gonna suffer. There needs to be a buffer period.
Why not make an average of their ranking based on 2 seasons? To those of you saying cancel the draft and change the draft age to 19, good luck convincing the teams that suck this year to give up their lottery ticket just because.
Not really. They lose one 1st as there are no draft for all teams this year. All traded picks are just pushed back. But that's the year you want to combine with the 2021 draft. So a team like Pittsburgh basically loses two firsts.
