Oddly enough, if Linden was president during the last year of Gillis - I don't think he gets fired then (note, I'm not arguing the Canucks would be better or worse off today). Whatever one may think about Linden's job as President - he did keep the rank & file quiet.
So.... potentially Benning and Aqualini wanted to rebuild, but Linden didn't? That would be a plot twist.
f*** yes!! bit of unexpected news. Benning will be gone next offseason after the team finishes in the basement yet another year and his ufa signings are flops. 1 step closer to getting competent people in the front office to actually rebuild this team

i'd say aquilini and linden clashed.
aquilini spoke and there is some passion in some of those tweets. he also used the word rebuild.
basically he said the kind of things a club president says.
maybe not a coincidence his twitter account became active recently.
i'd say this decision was made a while back before the draft, and they waited until all the players were signed to announce it.

As much as I like Gillis him coming back is unrealistic. It would be a very charged situation.
Dean Lombardi would be a good candidate. Maybe Chuck Fletcher. I'd avoid Naslund, too.

This could just be an excuse and damage control. It's still very plausible that Aqua didn't want to rebuild and was too stubborn, and only conceded to rebuild recently, but has thrown Linden under the bus to displace the blame for the delayed rebuild. It's all just speculation, though.
