Surprised that Merkley and Chemelevski are still hanging around with the big boys...
Think it's just to get them up to speed with systems, on their nutrition, enforcing habits?
Or should Dillon, Braun, and Heed be worried?
Hmmmm...
They should probably be a little worried. Also think the Sharks are rushing Gambrell. He doesn’t seem close to ready to me.

Chalk this one up in the “JTR was wrong” column. I was very high on Radil and thought he would make the NHL out of camp.

Ryan Merkley said in an interview before the draft that he wants to play one more year in Junior. I would be amazed if he stays up in the NHL.

Yeah, I’m not quite sure what the organization sees in him.

If I had a future potential star in Merkley, he’d be in camp until the last day, playing against NHLers and learning from Burns and Karlsson. I don’t think he makes the team, I think they’re just turning this into a learning experience.

Chlemevski, I’m confused about - why hasn’t he even played a game? How has he looked in scrimmages, anyone know? Is he at all ready for the NHL?

Guessing he’s going to play the next game...

And agreed on Gambrell. I think they’re trying to give him the chance to succeed which is nice but Chartier has the inside track and he’s not beating out Karlsson, Goodrow and Sorenson...

Good to see. Unfortunately it looks like the fourth line is Sorensen-Gambrell-Karlsson which makes no sense to me. Chartier and Goodrow are significantly better than Gambrell and Melker.

Also it makes a lot of sense to just have Karlsson and Burns play the full two minutes of every power play the way DeBoer apparently has it configured at practice today. Karlsson at the point, Burns at the left circle in the Ovie one-timer spot, then on the first PP you've got Pavelski in the slot, Thornton at the right circle, Couture on the goal line replaced on the second PP by Kane in the slot, Labanc at the right circle, Hertl on the goal line.

I think they're just giving him one last chance to do something. He's probably close to being cut after they moved him to the wing last game. Not to mention that his competition at this point are Suomella and Chartier who have been ballers all camp.

They have him centering Sorensen and Karlsson in practice today though which looks like the fourth line they're planning on going with to start the season to me (certainly moreso than the Goodrow-Chartier-Chmelevski line).

I agree. Watching Radil, I thought for sure he would take the 13th or 14th forward spot at the very least. I'm guessing he is one of the first call-ups.

In a world without ELCs and player development, I would take Merkley as a 6th defenseman/PP specialist with offensive zone starts right now. Offensively, he has nothing left to prove in the OHL. Of course, defensively, he has a lot to work on, but, by my eye test, he is not atrocious out there. Honestly, he looked more effective than Tim Heed to me. Wish they could send Merkley to Europe.

Suomela seems to have locked up 3C. No one in my mind has passed him up. Think he'll be fun to watch.

Gambrell looked better last game. I still like Chartier better: stronger wheels and vision. I think Chartier could create a lot of match-up issues on the lower lines if he plays with Sorenson.

Barclay Goodrow has not impressed me at all. Guessing he rides the bench a lot this season.

Goodrow learned not to take a roster position
for granted and keep working hard for one. He ll be on the 4th line to start the season.
There was a line break in between position and for granted and I was like well that’s one way to say that he had a bad camp (which I obviously don’t think he did but thought it was clever)

Goodrow has 5 points in 3 preseason games. He's done well and is certainly a lot better than Melker Karlsson who doesn't even belong in the NHL at this point. I'm really hoping for a Sorensen-Chartier-Goodrow fourth line to start the year. That would give us 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines that are probably among the top ten 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines in the league. Of course our 1st line is probably one of the worst 1st lines in the NHL but that's the only weakness in the lineup aside from goaltending.

I would love to see a Sorenson-Chartier-Goodrow 4th line as well. I just don't see PDB health scratching Melker though. Only way he does not play Melker is he is injured or traded.

Also, I think we need to stop seeing Pavs-Jumbo as our 1st line. Hertl-Couture are going to be the top line and also keep in mind that we will have arguably the best D pairing in the league with Vlasic-Karlsson playing with the 1st line. It will make a big difference.

What does everyone think the lines will be and what does everyone hope the lines will be

Hope:
Hertl-Couture-Labanc
Kane-Pavelski-Donskoi
Meier-Thornton-Chartier?
Sorenson-Suomela-Goodrow

Vlasic-Karlsson
Ryan-Burns
Dillon-Braun

Think:
Kane-Thornton-Pavelski
Hertl-Couture-Meier
Donskoi-Suomela-Labanc
Sorenson-Chartier-Goodrow

D same

My only problem with the lineup that I think will happen is that I don't think the Joes will do as well together as they could separate.

I think it would be best to play playoff style hockey, wear teams over time with three heavy possession power forwards on separate lines to optimize brent burns and erik karlsson and not waste time getting the puck back or allow for any drop off. sumo at 4th line would be the kicker we've got a straight 10 j k q a sumo is the ace kicker!!!

Get them to believe in that if they roll the lines, the other's team will simply be too tired from playing defense, war of attrition and momentum just like in the playoffs.

I find it is absolutely hilarious that FanFest is streamed worldwide for free on Twitter but the pre-season games are only streamed in the Sharks local TV market.
