I think they should have given him a QO but saying if the didn’t like the arb award they could trade him is unlikely. He was an FA and only got a 1 x 1.7M. let’s say he got awarded 3.75, there is zero chance they could trade him.

Is Duckair at $3.75 better then Daddy at $5 x 3

just a stupid move all around to let Duclair go. And they looked stupid doing it which makes it all worse

maybe by the deadline, but certainly not prior to paying him a big chunk of that salary.

Duclair didn’t even look that good the other day - he’s a spare part on that team.

What are we thinking ?? Duc is some type of solution for Stutzle’s line? No thanks.

I think DuckLair went where he wanted to go anyway.

Behind you, look out
Could of had Duclair as well for $3 million a season.

Dorion has spend his money horrendlessly, not talked about enough because we aren’t a Cap team but he’s a horrible Cap manager and has so much money caught up in dead end players

No, Duclair straight up and said he was not offered that little and he knew people would comment on his signing in Florida. Kid was betting on himself.

Norris or Stutzle and 2022 1RD pick?

I doubt Brann, JBD, Greig, and 2022 1RD does it.

I would trade Brannstrom, JBD, GReig and 2022 first rounder (lottery protected) for Scheiffle IF we get him to extend his contract.

I'm not sure what you're referring to here; Wallace made the claim that he heard (not from the team or Duclair) Duclair was offered 4-5 mil x 5 yrs on the radio, and there was another report of 4.25 x 3 years (I think it was Wallace again) but Duclair scoffed at the suggestion and told Marc Brassard that he'd only been offered a one year deal by the team (no mention of the amount). Dorion only said he'd been offered a substantial raise, which basically means anything more than the 1.65 he'd been making

It seems like we had no interest in committing to him with term, or been willing to pay what arbitration might have gotten him (3+mil one year deal?)

If he was "betting on himself" one year deal in Ottawa for 4.25 would have been win/win for him as he'd make more short term and still be able to set himself up for his next contract. No way we offered that. I doubt we went higher than 2.5m x 1 yr

Duclair lucked into a good situation when the Panthers signed him. They have boatloads of talent on that roster and he is benefitting from it.

Duclair f***ed up his negotiation with Ottawa and went to Florida for the same money he played for the year before. The only reason it keeps coming up is because there's a part of this fanbase on HF, like you, that has these revenge porn fantasies of every ex-player like Duclair sticking it to Ottawa's "incompetent" management. It's so childish and stupid and always seems to be the same posters, like you, rehashing and re-litigating these tired arguments over and over again.
Can we finally move on from this thing? He fired his agent, he turned down the offer he got from Ottawa, he didn't get much interest around the league and ended up signing yet another 1YR contract in Florida at the same money as before and he re-upped for far less on a 3Y/$9M contract than anyone around here predicted he'd get. He simply didn't have the value around the league you seemed to think he had, and always screaming bloody murder about letting the guy walk isn't gonna change it.

But if Ottawa qualified him he would of been under team control, makes no sense what they did.
Was Ennis 22/Dadonov 21 better then Duclair?. NO. The team is worse because of a stupid management decision.

And Duke isn’t the first player to screw up a negotiation, Dorion yelled at Methot in the news when Dorion wasn’t getting what he wanted

Considering we need speed, scoring and a game breaker Duke is all of these things and his replacements are not.

they spent equal money on Daddy/Ennis then Duclair. These are the types of moves that make a team be bad when they get the worse player out of their own bright ideas

And if you qualify him, then he has arbitration rights.
He turned down a better offer from Sens, thinking he’d get more but he didn’t.
He had 20 goals by Christmas, then 2 after, one being an empty net.

He had like 2 goals in his last 30 games for Ottawa, what the f*** are you talking about? What does Methot have to do with this? Ennis was a PTO and Dadonov had a waaaaaaay better track record than Duclair. Unlike Duclair, Dadonov was one of the very top free agents in his UFA year. Your out to lunch take is only supported by hindsight which is not a benefit anyone who makes these kinds of decisions has the luxury of.

Yep back to my original point. Horrible pro evaluation from letting Duke go to adding Dadonov - it’s all part of the same problem

Meant to post earlier this week but work has been crazy.

I have heard that Minny has their eyes on Paul, and that likely is the reason for extension conversations stalling.

Obviously we’ve been linked to Fiala, but I don’t know why they would trade him before the off-season, unless they are looking to retool for the playoffs, and feel that Paul will make them better down the stretch.

It was a horrible pro evaluation to give money and term to the guy who had 3 straight 25+ goal seasons over the guy who finished his season on an epic cold streak of 2 goals in 30ish games? That's beyond stupid. Your original point is a horrible, dumb take.

ooo spicy. Hope we don't give up a first rounder though. Maybe they covet one of our prospects?

To be fair, Dadonov was older, showed declining production, and also finished the year cold with 2 goals 7 pts and -11 on a much better team, so there were definately some flags

Can't see them moving Fiala at the TDL. He brings a lot more offense. Hard to say what the return for Paul would be.
