List of guys I’d look at to sign:

Forward:

Craig Smith - top 9.

Alex Galchenyuk - see above.

Jesper Fast - middle 6.

Josh Leivo - Might not be qualified, middle 6.

Brian Boyle - 4th line.

Matt Martin - 4th line.

Kyle Clifford - 4th line.

Defencemen:

Bogosian - Chabot/Brannstrom partner.

Tanev - See above, though pipe dream.

Justin Braun - Pretty big meh, thought about him previously and was against it, but if it’s a 1 year, fine. Bottom 4.

Travis Hamonic - Gonna command a lot I think, and likely wouldn’t sign here, but I’d inquire. Top 4.

Dustin Byfuglien - Wild card. Top 4.

I think Dorion came out and basically said we wouldn't be active on the free agent market.

I think that excludes a lot of the big names in your post (especially on D).

I remember when management said a week before we signed Gonchar 5x3 lol

sure but after an early ending to the season, i figure we have a tighter budget then we normally would ...which is sad

i expect ennis type signings unless we get a bargain dropped off in our lap

welcome to the ottawa senators freddy andersen, loui eriksson, derek stepan

17.5 million in cap, 6 million in actual salary lets ****ing go. Everybody make some noise

It would be fun to take all of these cast off players with a chip on their shoulders and make a miracle run to the playoffs!

Only to lose our last 20 games of the season so as to safely be in the lottery.

if its any consolation at least 2 of those players still have some skill... this is so sad

we need to bet our sb cash on the sens board as a whole what the actual salary in dollars is going to be on opening night. Have different ranges and make a game out of this sad sad joke

Ok well I am sure you can watch the games they may change your opinion.
He played soft last year. Again not worth the argument. He’s my number 2 guy behind Laf, but I already hear fans complaining that he doesn’t use his size. He’s good enough for me that he is 2 without playing a hard game.

Yeah, it's a bit unfair because there are plenty of 6'2 guys out there who score lots of points and no one accuses them of "not using their size".

Once you get up to 6'4, 6'5, you are expected to hit everything in sight.

I'm not saying that Byfield couldn't use his size better, but he may not ever be a physical player. Being physical is much more of a mental discipline than a physical one IMO.

Sometimes it's about being able to simply stand your ground (e.g. in front of the net) or keep the puck away with your reach.

New York needs to buy out Smith and Lundqvist.

To NYR 3rd overall, Hogberg
To Ottawa 1st overall, Smith, Lundqvist
What. No part of that makes sense.

Melnyk is not paying over 10M to move from 3 to 1 in the draft.

Rangers can buy both out and have sufficient cap space to add pieces.

Rangers have 2 young Russian goalies.

Melnyk, money, etc

I wonder what constitutes very active to him at this point in time. A trades may be more likely though.

Thank God. They are not changing the plan (which is to rebuild throught the draft) and plan to allow young players to prove themselves.

I completely forgot we had Gonchar...

Weird because he's one of the best players to have ever worn the Sens Jersey. Even if he was 36 y/o when he joined the team, he gave 3 good years to the Sens. Some interesting facts :

- 8th best PPG in the playoffs by a Sens player (10 games or more) with 0.59 (Heatley, Spezza, Alfredsson, Karlsson and Bobby Ryan are 1-2-3-4-5) and he's a D-man (79 players in total)

- 5th best PPG in the regular season by a D-man (tied with Redden, Chara and Corvo)

One of the best UFA signings ever made by the Sens (with Clarkie of course)

God I'd be doing front flips backflips duos if I was Melnyk :amazed:

Turns out I was only 10 when Gonchar was in Ott, that’s probably why I didn’t remember so well lol. Didn’t get seriously into hockey until a couple years ago. Cheers for the facts!

The other funny Gonchar anecdote was his lackadasical play in pre-season when he first came over, which led to a chorus of boos during his introduction in the opener.

It was a pretty tough reception but he won everyone over by the end of the season.

I would be trying to fleece Rutherford by calling him every day.

They need a 3C after they traded Bgustad, and it looks like they are getting another dman, giving them 9 dman signed.

So Tierney + 33rd overall for Matt Murray + John Marino.

Tkachuk - Norris/Brown - Duclair
Balcers - Norris/Brown - White
Formenton - Stutzle - C.Brown
Paul - Hawryluk/Chlapik - Ryan/Anisimov

Chabot - Marino
Wolanin - Zaitsev
Braanstrom - Hainsey
Reilly

Murray/Hogberg
