Yes,for sure pick a direction and rebuild hopefully with a new GM,teams would give a king's ransom for a healthy Weber and many other players have value.

Our current management don't have the guts to make the moves we need to make. I'd keep Weber and entertain trading him later if we continue to struggle. I prefer to keep him as our captain (unless some team gives us pry away factor that we can't refuse).

Petry, Tatar, Byron. Sell high and they all have decent AAV and term left. The returns we can get from them help us in two ways. It helps us get close to the bottom of the standings and it also returns us picks and prospects. I call it an accelerated rebuild. I think there would be a short 2 or 3 year window we could compete for a cup before Price turns 35/36 and Weber turns 36/37. If we don't, we then consider moving them at that point and the core behind them would still be solid to keep building on.

However, our current management believes in the "make the playoffs where anything can happen" too much. We need a new President/GM.

I’m all down at moving Price, at 10.5m$, I’m not getting my money’s worth, and I love the player. Plus, I predicted a while back that if Price was dealt, he would be St-Louis bound (or EDM)

If you look at the Karlsson and Skinner deal, not much was given.....at least not when you compare it to the Patch deal. I’m hoping that Tarasenko could be had at a comparable deal.
"Discounted price" with retain of salary/cap hit for Tarasenko, Dunn, and 2020 1st round draft pick(potentially Lafreniere) Now that is how you FLEECE a team. And, they won't even think it's a fleece, since the GRAND delusion of him being the "world's greatest goaltender" is still being believed by people in the hockey world. Did all of you have a good look at last evenings match against the RUINS? The was the "ghost of Christmas yet to come" match, except the ghost will be arriving in Spring. It's an omen of what BIG teams will do to munchkins in the playoffs, and how "discounted" will be playing in May.

A G doesn't get you Tarasenko, Dunn and the 2020 1st round pick. Gs don't get equal value back, never mind better value, even at 5.25M if MON held back half of Price,s cap hit for 7 more years.

Besides, would price want to go to St-Louis? He has 100% control on where he goes.

Remember the delusion that he is supposedly the "greatest goaltender in the world"....LOL. Normally I would agree with you, but NOT in this case. The delusion is STRONG. The GM's job is to ASK , and to sell this delusion, even if it's NOT fact.

Having a 10.5m cap hit for the next 7 years he won't need to use that control since he knows where he's going and it's absolutely nowhere. The Habs are stuck with that contract and we may as well accept it.

I prefer having a great goaltender whom we can always rely for the next 8+ years than being Philadelphia or St-Louis and having to suck mostly due to the lack of goaltender.

I won't debate if Price is still considered a great goaltender right now or not but you will have a Price for the next 8 years so you'll get that part anyhow.

If i had the choice, I would take Vasi, Rinne and Andersen before Price, but we know we are secured with a healthy price locked for 8+ years.
Also, I don't want to be stuck with one of the best top 6 and top 4 while I'm sitting in the bottom.... Goaltenders are under valued,

just look at St-Louis or Philly who never gave a chance at their own goaltender, Hell, they traded bobrovsky for 3rd and 4rd.... and look now.
If Price stay injury free, Im happy with it and the contract. Now we need a strong LHD and one more sniper and the team is set up for the long run

In a magical world where the habs could land Tarasenko, would you include Poehling?

I'm not even sure Price could be traded even if he wanted out or the Habs decided to trade him. I can't see another team taking on that cap hit for another 7 years but stranger things have happened I guess.

Price on Preds would easily get 2.25 , 0.928-0.930 , He got value but habs would need to take 2 big cap dump atleast.
But he will never get traded under Bergevin ''reign''

We really need a top 2C and top 4D. If a perfect world KoKa would be back in Finland getting stronger and Danault would be 3C. Problem is who is available?

Maybe Hayes and Skjei for Poehling, 1st, Mete, Schlemko (cap dump).

No idea if Hayes is better than KoKa so this may be like kissing your sister.

I’m a big fan of Poehling and I’d absolutely include him in a trade for Tarasenko. St. Louis would have to take back some salary to make it work and we can take on a big short term contract as well.

Tarasenko , as skilled and fun to watch as he is , would cost a lot and im of the opinion that if we gut the farm/picks in a trade it should be for a someone playing a position of need. That would be LHD (especially) and C. Tarasenko is a winger which is not really something we re lacking. Yes he would likely immediately become out best winger but the major holes would still be there. Right now Id rather see Bergevin try to fill the holes instead of upgrading on the wings

If Blues proceed with a firesale i think it would be better to target guys like Parayko and Schenn
