I think Hoffman is holding things up right now and once he signs with a team, the market may open up again allowing Granlund to sign with someone.

Yeah, it is crazy to think about how Russo said just a few years ago that Granlund's agent was looking for a 9+ mil contract from the Wild. He gets traded where the Preds tank his value(mostly due to mismanagement). Now in the covid era he might need to do a 2 mil 1 year contract at the very least. If the Wild weren't set on top 6 wingers I'd be willing to give him a shot since I remember fans salivating of thinking of Granlund playing with Kaprizov.

If it's two million, we should sign him and buyout/bury Rask, Bjugstad or Johansson in the 2nd buyout period.

If the Wild ownership pulled off some screwy loyalty type of move and figured out a way to get rid of Zuccarello I would be okay with signing Granlund to a 3-4 year deal 5 M per.

And its literally only due to the homer in me

But we as Wild fans know more than anyone the Granlund is still a good player. At the time we traded him it was looking like he was going to get a major contract and he was also without much of a doubt our best, most skilled, most dynamic forward.

If I was a GM who just hired say BB as my new coach the first thing I would do is figure out a way to bring in Granlund for 4 years at around 4.5-5 M per year.

BB really utilized him well.

This guy was a an absolute star for us down the road.

anyone interested in a 3mil TJ? Personally i'm not with how the roster is, but if we had more open roster spots and bit more cap it wouldn't be a quick no. I'm afraid is on the downward decline of his career now.

He's 30 years old signed for 4 more seasons and has a NTC, meaning he would need to be protected for the expansion draft. No thanks.

No, only NMC clauses need to be protected. Plus after this season it drops from a full NTC to a M-ntc one. For all we know Seattle could pick him. Still wouldn't do it.

I stand corrected and still would pass on that deal.

No thanks. I’d rather be bad and get a higher draft pick.

We're not going to be bad with our D core. We just won't be. We had the worst goaltending in the league last year, and were a point out of the playoffs at the stoppage. On pace for a 91 point team, but probably would have finished 93 or 94 points given how bad they were early and how hot they were late.

And while our C depth looks worse this year than last year, because the big names replaced with not as big names, the dirty little truth is Bonino is a better player than Staal at this stage. Koivu was more or less a defensive specialist at this point and is probably a lateral exchange with Johansson (it's possible Sturm is an upgrade even). We didn't really lose any performance, just the bigger names.

And depending upon what Rossi is, the C position may even be improved.

Does this mean you think TJ would make the team better? If you were told that the wild would make the playoffs with or without him would you take this deal to increase the chances the Wild go further in the playoffs?

I wonder how many people would be fine with 3 mil for 5 years if they offered at the very least a 2nd round appearance next season.

TJ at 3M would be ok, theoretically, but trading for him would ignore our needs. At this point he is a bottom six C who will be getting worse as he ages, not better. We have bottom six C's in Ek, Sturm, Rask going forward. What we need is top 6 C's. Johnson will just gum up our bottom six.

I'd prefer Ek gets more playtime in minutes and more play time in a nondefensive role.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they did that trade, but I think we are better served giving our younger players the playing time.

Yes, I do think TJ is an upgrade over our centers. I think it’s basically wasted money though, and you could spend it better elsewhere.

No. Johnson is past his prime, and he will not bring the 3rd line, two-way elements that Bonino can bring.

Fine player, but Wild should spend the year learning if JEE can be a 2nd line center and getting Rossi his rookie year as a top-6 center.

I would give Dumba and a small plus for Monahan, but I think that CAL would want a C coming back the other way, probably JEE. You would think that JEE + Dumba would get it done, but I would be loathe to give up JEE w/o giving him a chance in the top 6, and see if he can provide enough offense to be a #2C. Russo keeps hinting that the Wild aren't interested in Monahan- maybe BG just doesn't like the way he plays?

Yeah I think if the Wild truly wanted Monahan he would be here by now. I agree that there must be something that Guerin doesn't like about him and I'm guessing it doesn't have anything to do with the price to acquire him.

Posted this in the trade board, and I don't hate it. We don't need Bonino if we have Monahan.

Dumba, Bonino and Sturm (10.8 million in cap) for Monahan, Bennet, Ryan (12.9 million in cap). Flames actually open 2.25 m in cap room to maybe get one of the remaining UFA forwards at a discount (Haula?) with the shrinking market?

Lindholm, Bonino and Backlund would be solid defensively, if they acquire Haula on the cheap he'd be a nice offensive option and they can see what Sturm is.

Bennet is a cap dump, and seems destined to be not qualified an offer next offseason. Ryan can play 4C this year.

Wild can run Monahan as 1C until Rossi matures, and then float him to 2C where he belongs assuming Rossi is what we hope. JEE holds down the 3C.

Probably a pipe dream, complicated trades like that don't happen.
