Ducks center Derek Grant sits out OT loss to Vegas with trade deadline near – Orange County Register

ANAHEIM — Ducks center Derek Grant was held out of their 6-5 overtime loss Sunday to the Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center, a clear signal general manager Bob Murray had at least one pending offer for one of his most valuable trade chips before Monday’s noon (PST) deadline.

It wasn’t certain which teams were bidding for the services of Grant, who has a career-high 14 goals to go with six assists in 49 games in his second stint with the Ducks. He is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and could re-sign with the Ducks if he is dealt.

The Ducks still had a game to play, knowing Grant was held out as asset management and with the understanding that he could be playing elsewhere soon. His absence coupled with the knowledge that other deals could be in the works created a level of anxiety on the eve of the deadline.

“You just don’t know,” Ducks center Adam Henrique said. “There’s probably so much more that’s talked about that we don’t know or you guys (reporters) don’t know that maybe has potential or maybe gains traction. Or doesn’t. I’m sure everybody’s discussed. There’s endless possibilities.
