why?? 12 million in dead cap space this year and they are leading division with 8 games to go. Why would you tank with 97 and now they way 12 is progressing
I'll answer that question after round 1.

Why wouldn't we prioritize a multi-year contract to Gustavsson over any other FAs from the team? Clearly he meshes well with the system and when was the last time we had a goalie ranked #2 in GAA and SV%?

Tell me one upcoming FA from this team that will hurt more not being here next season than losing Gustavsson?

IMO, there will be enough money off the table to give him a competitive contract to keep him here for the transition to Wallstedt, and he has more than proven to be a #1 on this team if/when Flower regresses.

I'm with you. He is the # 1 priority to re-sign. Shouldn't be too hard. He's had, by far his best success ever here, has a team full of countrymen, and contracts are usually negotiated after looking at the past two years of work. On top of that, he's a RFA, not a UFA.
Unless he hates it here, he can look ahead to a time when he will get a large contract once the Cap situation gets better.

You don't "tank" through the best years of possibly your best players in franchise history.
you can always make an excuse to go 4 it every year (for season ticket holders) i still think guerin played it right NOT giving up a 1st or even a 2nd while we're 13 mill under cap. fletch failed this franchise by doing that too often.

I believe the wild will consider moving Gustavsson this offeaaon. The wild believe Wallstedt is close to being ready to be an NHL backup and they won’t be able to afford Gustavsson’s next deal. Buffalo is the team I’d be interested in. I would do Gus for their first.

Buffalo would easily decline.

Keep Gus & be extra patient with Wallstedt.

Last summer we move Fiala for futures and signed no scorers to replace him which put a lot of pressure on Rossi. Let’s not repeat that exact mistake.

If you need cap, move Foligno at the draft. Duhaime is a better player now and PWFs like Foligno routinely breakdown in their early 30s (Clarkson, Lucic, Simmonds etc) so let’s not get caught holding the bag

It's crazy to me that we're talking about trading guys like Addison and Gus. Those are guys we should be keeping. Trade guys like Foligno, Goligoski, Fleury if you want more cap space.
Addison to me is where Donato was at the end of his time here. A journeyman future at best.
I only see a journeyman PP specialist in Addison at this point. If you can get decent return, do it... his value isn't going to improve imo.

That's why I'm ok with moving on.

Do we trade every rookie that doesn't have it figured out by the end of their first year?

Not at all, but if you didn't see a future in one, and saw a potential return, you would likely be in favor of doing so too.

You and I just appear to disagree at this point on Addison's future.

Maybe. Maybe Gus plus the second we got for greenway is closer
I should have been more clear, Buffalo isn’t going to pay major assets for a goaltender. They have two solid goaltending prospects in UPL and Levi.

I don’t think we should consider moving Gus. If we do and Fleury retires we are in a goaltending pickle if Wallstedt isn’t ready. Just completely unnecessary.

We won’t be able to afford Gus. If we can move fluery, that should be move number 1. Otherwise, we probably have to move Gus. And Buffalo 100% needs an upgrade in goal. Levi is a solid prospect, but I think they more kidding themselves if they think he can be their starter next year.

If it came down to Addison vs Nyquist (Gus, Mojo both re-signed) who are you picking?

I think I would lean towards Nyquist.

We will be able to afford Gus. He has one year of solid play and he didn’t even play half the games in that year. That right there is grounds for a 2 year “prove it” bridge deal.

It’s the same reason Buffalo also wouldn’t pay a 1st for him.

Nyquist is gonna be 34 at the start of next season. I'm taking Addison.

Fair enough. Age aside, I’d rather have a quality middle six winger over a 6/7 D PP specialist. But I get where you are coming from in regards to age, potential, and long term outlook.
