If Johansson and Nyquist are good enough in the playoffs to want to keep around, this lineup is a Goligoski-replaced-by-league-minimum-defenseman away from being cap compliant, with a few assumed contracts:

Kaprizov - Hartman - Zuccarello
Johansson (2.5) - Eriksson Ek - Boldy
Nyquist (2.5) - Rossi (ELC) - Walker (ELC)
Duhaime (1.1) - Dewar - Foligno
Shaw (.8)

Middleton - Spurgeon
Brodin - Faber (ELC)
Merrill - Addison (1.9)
7th D (.75)

Fleury
Gustavsson (2.9)

What's left in cap space?

$1m or so. The cap will work out okay since it's only a couple weeks left in the season. They might be able to open more with a retroactive LTIR if needed.
Wait, what?

I thought they were proposing a lineup for next year. How does how much season is left now relate?

Don’t think they can keep Johansson and Nyquist. I also don’t think they keep Addison either. They’ll trade him this offseason

Need cap space for Rossi and maybe Faber bonuses. I also don't think Nyquist signs at 2.5 if he proves to be worth keeping while healthy. He'd get 4+ elsewhere.

I'm still holding out hope that the complete mystery that is RHD after Spurgeon can help the Wild land Livingstone. Seems the org is done with Addison. Promise Livingstone that Addison is traded if he signs. Direct path to earn a spot in the NHL, even top 4 time if he can beat out Faber.

Johansson is only making 1.1 Million this year he wont get much more than that next year. He said he is tired of bouncing around and wants to find a home, My guess hes found one and will work out a fair deal with Wild

Nyquist will not be getting much more than 2.5M on a new contract. He will be a 34 yo winger who had an injury shortened year in which he scored less than .5/ PPG.

MJo is a year younger, and looks great so far. If they can get him for under 2.5 M x2, or even better, 3x2M, then they have to do it. Nyquist is an unknown commodity at this point. He might be like M Jo, v1, for all we know.

Having both around will certainly provide competition for Gaudreau, Hartman, and even Foligno, though he is a bit of an outlier. Rossi, Walker, and Beckman will also be fighting for spots, and their low cap hits will make them very appealing to a team with our cap problems.

Johansson 3 x $3.5M - assuming he keeps it up, should be a competitive offer and if he really wants to stay in 1 spot for a while, should be pretty appealing to him based on what he was paid this year. Could very well be lower than this too, which would be helpful.

Gaudreau 4 x $2.5M - pretty fair for both sides, with Gaudreau being a nice utility bottom 6er (ideally) and a good shootout guy, and he cashes in pretty decently for his 1 "big" contract.

Gustavsson 1 x $3M - will be interesting to see who signs first between him and Swayman. 1 year gets him past Fleury's deal and a chance to cash in if he has a good year next year.

These numbers totaled up should leave us ~$1M in space next year.

Russo and LaPanta agreed, not more than 2M AAV for Johansson. They also think the Wild may lose Gustavsson, if they can't match other offers. It also depends on how much Zuccarello leaves on the table, his market value is higher.

These two things don't really line up, timeline-wise.

That we can't afford more than 2M or that Johansson won't ask for more than 2M?

Can re-sign Zuccarello July 1st, then it becomes a factor after next season.
Replacing Fleury with Wallstedt by itself frees up $2.5M that can be added directly onto whatever Gustavsson is making next year.

1 x $3M into a however many years x ~$5.5M if we want to.

If he's talking about yesterday's podcast, they didn't mention any numbers. Just "short-term" and "cheapish".

Don't think they mentioned Gustavsson at all either, except when they were talking about who starts game 1 of the playoffs.

Zuccs is proving he's a passenger and not a driver. He needs a Kaprizov to be productive. He's only has 6 goals and 19 assists since the new year in 35 games.

why?? 12 million in dead cap space this year and they are leading division with 8 games to go. Why would you tank with 97 and now they way 12 is progressing
