Wei-Yin Chen, Gallardi, Kazmir and Samardzija would all be solid additions to our rotation

Devon Travis underwent surgery on his shoulder.
Price finished 2nd in Cy Young voting.

Blue Jays traded Liam Hendricks to Oakland for Jesse Chavez. Chavez was a solid starter last year, but he's an FA after this season. Hendricks has mutliple years of control.

There were some rumblings that Gibby wasn't a huge Liam fan. On the flip side here, it does give TO some security in the rotation if they're unable to hook a big fish.

Jays just signed J.A. Happ for 3 years.
I liked Happ  and he really bounced back last year in the second half. I don't like him much @ $12 million a year though

edit:

So now the rotation is currently:

1. Stroman
2. Estrada
3. Dickey
4. Happ
5. Chavez/Hutchinson

We really need a bigger fish to slot into the #2 spot and push everyone else down.

But I wanted a shiny new toy.
I think someone will come and slide into that 2 hole still. But I think this means it won't be Price. I think it will be Cueto or Chen personally.

I also want to pick up Antonio Bastardo for the bullpen.

They should sign this guy Price. I hear he's pretty good.

and.... the Jays are going to suck again.

Give Happ that much but you can't pay a legit #1 200 when the Jays would easily make that money back by being one of the best teams in the league. Rogers is a joke.

I knew he was going to the Red Sox or Yankees. Both have young up and coming rosters, money to spend and better pitching then the Jays. Welcome back to the days of mediocrity, two months was nice.

Not sure why you posted that twice a couple hours apart, but AS already addressed that.

Was from my phone. It's doing some weird things. And the Jays aren't out of Price until he signs elsewhere. The Red Socks may be the front runners, but he's not gone until a new contract is signed.

That is weird

They may not be out of it and I'm sure they're still pursuing him and likely still talking to guys like Chen, Chueto, Samardzija, Gallardo, Kazmir... etc as well but they do have other holes to fill in the rotation. Happ fills the #4/5 spot in the rotation and adds an additional left handed arm to the mix. Now if we land Price or one of the other bigger names then it pushes Happ to #5 and Chavez/Hutch to the bullpen.

JA Happ will be the Jays only Lefty starter; which does have some merits on its own. This is more of a depth move, and I think the Jays are moving towards the Royals model for their pitching. KC has some good pitchers but none of the names blow you off the page like Price does; they do it with 5 pitchers that can deal; versus one mega name, a couple pitchers that can deal; and a the other two are wild-cards.

Stroman will be Toronto's Ace next season; he's a really good young pitcher with a lot of room to grow and develop. Would it have been awesome signing Price to a 9 figure contract over 7 years? It sure would have been awesome over the next few seasons; it would have really hurt when he was a 36 year old still making north of 25 million.

Same $ as Estrada and with him being a lefty it makes sense. Pitchers salaries are ridiculous

Yeah like I don't mind Happ really, but if they say they spent their budget on Chavez and Happ, I'll be a little disappointed. Like I still think Hutch can be in the rotation as a starter as well, as he's still young. But it's a good thing they brought in a lefty, I am surprised at the dollars, but like you said I guess that's the going rate.
