Pierre Lebrun tweeted about it last night saying it should be a penalty... I know those hits don’t happen as often these days, but I guess he wasn’t watching hockey 5+ years ago. I think most Canadian media members are babies.

Lebrun is just playing to his rabid base. Gotta keep that HNiC gig going. Journalism is second to sucking up to the crazies.

And then he claimed he doesn't have time to watch videos or back up his claims because he's studying. But when you look thru his post history, it's literally nothing but crying about the refs since the start of the game.

Yup. When will people learn that when you concede a point, you take all the power away from your opponent? Doubling down on stupid, even after being show to be 100% wrong only hurts you. There are some legit questionable calls on both sides last night. The Krug "charge" is not one of them.

I’ve heard HNIC is all anti-Bruins. I’m glad I don’t have to watch it except for an occasional Coach’s Corner.

I don't watch it, but I've seen a lot of clips, and it is almost all pro-Leafs bias. Almost 80% of the coverage is the Leafs, and none of it is negative. Except for Grapes, but even he's a Leafs guy where the ratings are concerned (picked the Laffs to win round one last year, despite "His heart saying Boston").

Even if this was charging, which it wasn't, but how do you go on twitter and make a statement like that without pointing out what proceeded it at the other end of the ice. Your exactly right he's just preaching to the choir trying to get clicks.

So, is anyone still left on here that doesn’t think we absolutely have to sign this guy for whatever he wants?, he’s the entire back engine of this team, we will look WAY different if he moves on in terms of transition game, power play entry, power play QB.

He’s absolutely dominant at times and we have to find a way to bring him back. Carlo, McAvoy, Grizz, Krug, Clifton are the core to me. I love Miller and Chara, but you have to take the Belichick approach here.
I think there are a ton of people who are eating crow about Krug during this run. I doubted him for a bit too near the end of the season and love that he's making me look like an idiot. He is all heart and heart > size any day.

Oh me too, I was on board this season thinking Grizz was an effective replacement. I am now firmly of the opinion that Krug is as vital to this team as Bergeron, Marchand and Rask.

I don't even know if I posted in that last thread, but I'm one who was really, really down on Krug during the regular season. I think he earned most of that criticism with some very uneven (and oftentimes flat out BAD play). But he's been an absolute beast in the playoffs. I'm not afraid to admit it, even after being so down on him. I don't think it's unfair to say both things were realities though. There were a lot of reasons to criticize his play in the regular season, and plenty of reason to crow about his performance since.

Liked Torey Krug since day one. Plays big for his size. In his own end not all great, but brings other things . If they go on and win the cup that hit will always be remembered.

I prob have one of the stronger reps for being a krug basher. I always acknowledged his offense

I did often say i felt his weak defense made him a net negative player... that his pp skill alone wasnt enough to help us

But i said i still hoped he could improve

Well... he has improved :)

Leadership characteristics have become very noticable... compete level is at a whole new level

Is it only because hes entering a contract year?

Brian ralfalski was a little guy that aged like fine wine... can krug do the same?

Its risky but our window to win is now... krug has a valuable place on this team now.

His contract might suck in 3-4 years but im officially voting sign him... keep him... im a fan

This new krug can play on my team

I will be more than happy to eat crow IF and only IF he continues to play this well defensively next season.

I have to ask- WTF has this guy been until now??? Up until the playoffs this season he'd been a ****ing train wreck in his own end, showed zero interest in doing anything about it and basically got mauled by larger players. Maybe a switch got flipped on inside him :dunno: Hopefully it remains on.

You do got a point... some fans obliviously cheered krug on during some very bad stretches of hockey. Even last playoffs he was eaten alive

I see a few people here asking for crow... but us 'haters' were simply asking for better compete/stronger defense

Sometimes guys improve

Brad marchand
Brian rolston
Mark giordano

Some guys get better and when they do its ok to say they are better

I mean two things can be true at one time:

1) krug is probably on one of his best all around stretches of his career at the most important time.

2) krug has also struggled mightily in his own defensive zone throughout his career especially in the playoffs, but is having a hell of a playoff run.

FWIW, Tory Krug's "struggles" in his own end this season have been greatly exaggerated.

5v5 Goals Allowed per 60 minutes:
Brandon Carlo - 1.53
Matt Grzelcyk - 1.64
Torey Krug - 1.79
Kevan Miller - 1.79
Zdeno Chara - 2.21
John Moore - 2.22
Charlie McAvoy - 2.59

5v5 Expected Goals Allowed per 60 minutes:
Brandon Carlo - 1.91
Charlie McAvoy - 2.00
Matt Grzelcyk - 2.06
Torey Krug - 2.06
Zdeno Chara - 2.10
Kevan Miller - 2.18
John Moore - 2.30

Obviously, some of this is due to the fact that Cassidy protects him... he doesn't play against a lot of top lines and gets a fairly high percentage of offensive zone starts. That said, there doesn't seem to be much in his analytical profile that suggests he can't at least hold his own in his own end of the ice.

What on earth is an “expected” goal ?

I like how on nhl.com one of their main page articles talks about Krug as an 'agitator' getting under the Blues skin, borrowing a shirt from Marchand (dumb phrasing, if you ask me by the way.)

Let's not talk about how Perron was deliberately stepping over him and almost stepped on his arm with his skate, right? The bias against this team is unbelievable.

The thing that always makes me think that Krug is good is his own end isn't him clearing the crease or laying a big hit in the corners, but the way he is able to carry the puck out of the zone or make a 2 line pass, tape to tape. Comparing that with Chara or Carlo tossing a puck 30 ft into the air to clear the zone makes me appreciate those plays even more. Having him paired with a guy that has a long reach and the ability to out-muscle guys is huge. I don't think having a 2 Krug pairing would be great, but I also don't think having a 2 Carlo pairing would be great either. When those 2 work off of each other, they are one of the best pairings on the ice, during any single game.

He definitely makes mistakes, but his mistakes show way more than some others. By carrying the puck, willing to give a stretch pass, and engaging in the play offensively, he becomes more of a risk/reward player.

Having said all that, I LOVE when he is engaged physically. He may be small, but he'll wrestle with anyone in the corners. He may not always win, but he's willing to battle, even though it's not his strong suit.

Krug is all heart and guts. Always has been. He turns it up in the playoffs every year. He is the kind of guy you win with.

Is he gonna do some stupid things in his own zone during the season? Absolutely. But the idea of facing in the playoffs is terrible to me. We are lucky.

I’m not a Krug fan boy or anything but I’m honestly not sure how you could have watched Krug this year and say he was bad.

Just seemed like another 98.5 rant that people started rolling with.

Confuses me when people talk about how awful he is defensively (which he’s not, and really never has been). If his defense was as good as his offense he would be the highest paid defensemen in the game. Just not exactly sure what people expect out of him to have ever called him a net negative. That’s baffling

His defense has improved leaps from this playoff run

He is much more physical, especially in front of the net
