Have any of you considered that next summer DeRozan may return?

The only way I would have pulled off this trade is with a guaranteed sign and trade.

Not a fan of Leonard's attitude though. Both sides were wrong in their own way but he checked out and during this whole thing only cares about playing in one place. Seems like a lousy teammate.

DeRozan isn't coming back to Toronto lol.

Also, Kawhi sat out because he was hurt. Plain and simple. His own doctors confirmed he was still hurt in April, the Spurs had two reps with him in New York noting that while he was making progress and looking better, he was still hurt. Spurs docs ****** up on this one.

Like I said earlier, we saw first hand just a couple of days ago what playing hurt did for Isaiah Thomas. If Kawhi was hurt, he did the right thing by sitting out.

The Raptors just need Kawhi to show up and they should be fine. He may not stay but they'll likely get one really good season and a legit shot at making the finals.

I think too much is being made about their reputation now. No FA went there to begin with so it's not like this hurts them on that front. They've been able to retain their good players like DeRozan and Lowry because they've given them more money than other teams can offer.

it would be lovely if kawhi is actually serious about sitting out AND about being a laker

then TOR has no choice but to deal him to the lakers and the return will be trash
euh no lol he has to play or his final year of the contract wouldn't be used up and hes stuck in toronto until he does. He would cost himself a year and tons of money.

Trading him right away would be even stupider than acquiring him in the first place.

They should have talked to the guy before trading for him. They have wasted assets for someone that will be a distraction all year long, no matter what.

Life isn't a video game. Kawhi is much better than DeRozan, but the disruption his arrival (if he even comes) could have on the team and all the circus about will he/won't he re-sign isn't worth it.

Can he just sit out and walk? Wouldn't this be like the Yashin situation, where he owes them a year?
iirc when they traded Vince Carter, Alonzo Mourning refused to report. He could theoretically refuse to report if he is that discontent with the move. From a money perspective alone he's going from a GOAT tax situation in Texas to a WOAT tax situation.

What other moves can Toronto make for this year? They now have exactly a 1-year window and 1-year window only cause lord knows Kawhi will be out of there as soon as possible if he even decides to report.

They're still behind Boston and could be behind Philly depending on the natural progression of Philly's young guns.

raptors fans don't seem too torn up about derozan being dealt

pretty surprising for a guy who was 100% committed to toronto in this age of superteams

A lot of people are pissed but he also underperformed in the playoffs and wasn't very good at defence, plus youre getting a top 5 player if healthy.

Wear a jacket and live right beside the arena.

DeRozan, like Kawhi, grew up in sunny LA. He survived 9 years.

DeRozan cant opt out until 2020.

I always thought there was a 30 day window but there has been players traded right after theyw ere moved elsewhere.

He left behind a $219 million dollar contract in SA - don't think money is a huge issue for him.

Who says they didn't talk to him? There's not even an unofficial comment from Kawai yet.

He's probably gone in a year but it doesn't mean they didn't talk to him first. That doesn't sound like Masai at all.

So Leonard reportedly has no interest in not just suiting up for the Raptors but even living in Toronto at all, and the Raptors told DD they wouldn't trade him. Just incredibly head scratching management from Toronto's end.

Well at least they got a Conference Finals appearance out of it, that's one better than the Hornets have ever accomplished.

Had Lebron stayed in Cleveland, this trade would've been good.

But now that Lebron's gone to LA, I kinda wanted to see what Derozan and Lowry could do now in the playoffs.

This trade sucks. Only thing that could make this better if Kawhi actually plays his heart out in Toronto.

Praying he pulls a Paul George. And leave all his drama behind in San Antonio.

As for Masai, I feel like he's just trying to be relevant or something. He made two unnecessary moves. First, he got rid of the Coach of the Year and now this.

That was very different. Zo was 35, not playing particularly well and wasn't a guy they particularly wanted. They just bought him out, I'm thinking they might be more insistent with one of the best players in the league.

True.

but Toronto's instance may be completely irrelevant tho unless they talked with Kawhi and he said he'd play (which case all this talk is moot).

Weren't there rumors out there that Kawhi threatened to sit out the year if Spurs didn't trade him to Los Angeles or was it he would refuse to play if he were still with the Spurs?
