I felt like you guys wouldn't click on the links, so I tried to quote the key points to make it super accessible, but I clearly failed you my friends.

Mock me all you want gents, everything I've said is objectively backed.

Absolutely correct -- of our 20 wins, we've been outshot in all but 5 of them.

You should care, because this is a problem. This is not how good teams operate.

The top teams in the league like Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Montreal, all of those guys have positive shot differentials. The teams that people are surprised to see doing so well like us, Anaheim, Ottawa, and Columbus? Negative shot differentials. At -4.5, we're in there with the Buffalos and Floridas of the league. This is problematic, and I really can't emphasize that enough.

tl;dr teams that get outshot lose more often than not.

Everything I've been saying. 5v5 defensive improvement has been minimal. We're winning games on the back of Reimer and a top 5 PK.

You're bang on man, I've been saying the same thing. We've been shelled in most games and that's a recipe for a loss more often than not if not for goaltender. I'm extremely glad some fans realize this and don't just gloss over facts.

I think most people expected to get Robbidas/Morris/Gio and we got him instead. so people are disapointed. Maybe it wasn't as bad dispapointment as when we were hopping for Blake and we got Aki Berg. :sarcasm:

He is depth addition (and nothing more) for a cheap 4th round pick, basically we got him for Brown (who got us 4th round pick from Edmonton).

Lets please judge the guy after at least few games... ;)

Agreed.

I like the fact that he already has some chemistry with Liles. If he can play a strong, simple game that let's Liles roam a bit, they could be a good pair.

Or, worst case scenario, he's a 7th d in case someone get's hurt. No problems there.

Perhaps "freaking out" is a little strong, maybe I should have said "over-reacting"

Plenty of posts through this thread calling him a scrub, saying we should have just called up Komi, complaints about this further burying Gardiner, people claiming he's worse than Kostka before seeing him play for us, etc.

Normal Leafs fans type of stuff.

I hear you. I typically just skim over those posts.

A minor deal is nothing to get too excited or too upset about.

Only thing that bugs me about this guy is yet another slow-footed Dman. If we were to play him with Phaneuf, that pairing would get annihilated on the rush

I wouldn't think that would be the plan, but who knows.

I'd guess he plays with Liles or not at all.

We added a conditional 3rd rd pick now 4th rounder for Lombardi, now that he was traded to Anaheim from Phoenix.

We also have a conditional 3rd rd pick for Brown if Edmonton makes the playoffs.

Steckel got us Lasch and a 7th rd pick, all in 2014.

The 4th rd pick for ROB who played well last season, and all COL has played bad this year, basically cost us one of the above picks.

Not much of a price if you ask me.

i'm not sure it was freaking out but it was kind of like anyone that said anything remotely negative or even to the point of just wanting to discuss the deal would get intense responses of 'stop freaking out' and then as you tried to remake your point it would get worse.

there is a lot of if you question anything the leafs do you get jumped on. kind of like a republican mentality.

you want universal health care? = you're a socialist who is against freedom lol
what's O'Bryne's game like? a 4th seems a little high = stop freaking out over nothing, go cheer for someone else

I've always felt like that's why Burke always had...and seems to still have such strong supporters. Regardless of what he did or said in some peoples eyes (himself too) you could not question it.

Any news on what jersey number O'Byrne will wear?

If I'd guess it's 2, 7 or 33.

EDIT: Ok, he's wearing 23. Damn.

No dont we need all picks so we can horde them and keep everything so that our cupboards are overflowing, thats hfboards mentality not make the trades you need to make to get the job done :thumbs up:

Giveaway Gill!

I wouldn't be surprised if O'Byrne plays half or less of the remaining games. He's a depth guy and the cost was basically nil considering the other moves Nonis has made.

For those saying we should have just called up Komi...he's not even playing in all the Marlie games when healthy. At least O'Byrne has been facing the supposedly superior western conference on a nightly basis, almost 19 minutes of TOI

Anybody know if he'll be playing tonight? Looks like he can fight, need all the added toughness you can get against a team like Philly.

Talk to any respectable Avs fan and they will tell you he got those minutes because apart from EJ, their D-corps are atrocious.. He fell behind Hunwick, Zanon and O'Brien on the depth charts.

We can only hope he rekindles the magic he had with Liles a few years back..

I wouldn't hold my breath on 4th rounders.

The amount of them who ever make it,plus the 5 to 6 years it takes. If this helps the organization, well worth it in a playoff run we havent had in 8 years eh?

Nonnis did nothing to hurt us.

I dont have any stats or anything like that to back it up, but im just going to state a theory.

With Carlyles system, he forces the forwards to the outside, and so they cant get into the slot, and that forces the forwards to take shots form the outside, which would result in easier saves for Reimer and Scrivens.

So, what im trying to say, is that even though theres plenty of shots, they very well might be easy shots.

Mid round picks can be replenished in the summer if need be, but right now we have a live player that can help us. That's better IMO.

Whatever the circumstances, he was getting that time. Komisarek hasn't faced NHL competition since the first couple weeks of the season.

Well I just hope Nonis made the right choice to not "Rock the boat". I still think we could have used some of those picks to do more for the D, if Gunner didn't have that bad hip it would not be so much of a need but his hip seems to be effecting his play a lot which is worrisome.

Impossible. :sarcasm:

Anyways, here's why it's worth the experiment.

Joe Sacco - Fringe NHL 3rd Line Forward

Randy Carlyle - Norris Winning Defenceman

Don't we have a good record when out-shot?
