It’s a three game series for the Preds to lose now! Sorry folks but if you can’t get up to play 60 minutes in a playoff game there is something wrong!
that's why there were so many Viagra commercials on! for those who couldn't get it up during the playoffs.

2 things- the Preds PPG was on a make up call gifted to them. The officials didnt do this even out thing in game 1 in Nashville.

Its only because of a Kuli injury that Benny is playing. Would Kuli have helped prevent the first goal? Arguable. Point is Preds arent dealing with injuries on D.

Keep the eyes on the prize.

Don't make excuses. That is just sad.

Roslovic -----> Hendrix , At least we won't have to worry about these BS playoff lineup calls next year right?

I guess there could be one upside... Laine is doing everything possible to make sure he doesn't get $10MM per season. Take one for the team, get a smaller salary, he still makes a lot but the Jets get more cap space.

Seriously... he's a goal scorer and slumps happen. He just has to learn to change his game when the other teams concentrate on him. He still handles the puck in our defensive zone and along the boards like it's a live grenade .

Didn't like the effort last night. Didn't see much urgency in the jets game. Need to bring a higher compete level. Also why when the 4th line is on does it have to be with the bottom d pair? That makes no sense yet Jets do it all the time.

step back off the ledge and let's look at the game.

for 2 periods, the jets were outshooting and likely outchancing Nashville. Morrissey missed scoring on a fluke save and that would have created a completely different game.
jets, for some reason, just didn't seem to have "it".
Laine had a pretty awful game. no, i haven't been hypercritical of him in the playoffs, but he's had a few stinker games. yesterday was full of poor decisions. weak on the puck, weak on his skates. dude needs to be better.
Stastny looked very good yesterday. Trouba was also good. Enstrom was really good, and if you think differently, then just give up on hockey. his D coverage on Johanssen on one shift was so perfect. managed to outmuscle a guy 100 lbs bigger than him and get the puck away.

Scheifele and Wheeler on a 2 on 1: stop f'ing passing! this is happening way too often. just shoot.

Jets weren't overly physical, which i found to be odd.

and one final note: assume that Perreault wasn't 100% ready to play yesterday. cleared vs ready are 2 different things. expect him to draw in for game 5. expect a different battle in game 5. and, for god's sake, i hope game 5 is more entertaining than last night's yawner.
Some good points and I'm guessing Maurice is looking forward to having Frenchie available. Anyone who believes MP was a healthy scratch I'm not sure if you have watched along this season. There is a list of 12 forwards that will always be dressed if able to go and MP is safely in that group. Then there is a hierarchy of preferred to avoid at all costs that fill out the roster as necessary. Right now 13-17 in preference seem to be Hendricks and Rosie and then Matthias and Dano. MP talking off script to the media trying to push the envelope doesn't change that.

Well that disciplined game Nashville was apparently incapable of playing is a bit of a myth.

Even though Josi went down like a sniper victim, Laine losing his cool and costing the PP was poor. Could have set a different tone early had they capitalized.

No sense of panic though. If the Preds have conceded this is how they need to play against the Jets, I think thats fine. We are more than capable of breaking them down over 3 games.

This is playoff hockey and you have to fight through it. It is a real good test for our young team and its only going to make us better.

Laine,Connor and Ehlers only having 1 goal between them sucks but they are going to have to learn to fight through the tough checking of the playoffs if we want to win the cup

This is why I'm struggling with all the negativity. I love watching this team learn on the go. We have so much talent that our learning curve actually has a chance to go from an also ran last season to a cup champion in a single season. To think that there won't be struggles along the way is a bit ridiculous IMO. Even handling the highs and lows of a playoff series is tough for young players.

Winnipeg, Manitoba,
They just came off one of the best comebacks in years. It was an off game, the team is not off. We have also played more games from ahead than behind. I swear this place has become the most dower, least happy place these playoffs. It is in such contrast to what is happening everywhere else in the city.
Great post!

This certainly can be a sad place to visit after a game. Doesn’t seem to matter win or lose somebody is kvetching about something. Hendricks, Maurice, Toby, Little...you name it, so many targets for all of us armchair coaches, GMs, and players that have coached A2 hockey, managed daughter’s soccer team, and played beer league.

All of the targets are professionals but are also humans....where I’m going with this is that they all have bad days just like any of us do. That was an “off game” last night on so many fronts, I am confident they will re-group and look much better than last night. I would have loved if we won that game last night, gonna be a steeper hill to climb, but I think we have the team to do it. If not, we aren’t losing to a horrible hockey team...the Nashville P***ies are pretty good.

Besides we are not supposed to win it all till next year according to that Hockey News I bought a few years ago :naughty:

Well, I didn't get a chance to post since the game or even read much. I went downtown last night with the family for the first period to experience the whiteout party. It really is an extraordinary thing to see what they get set up down there and the sheer number of people having a great time. It really makes you proud of the city and the people who live here.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see as much of the game as I would have liked until the third period when I got home, and by that time the Preds had gone into full trap mode and the game was horrible to watch.

What I did see was the same thing I've seen whenever we haven't been successful....

During games like that we have to dump it in, but we have to do it with speed because we are losing most of the races to the puck. We have enough speedy guys that this shouldn't be happening. Not sure why that is.

I didn't see the same type of physical play that made us so successful and got us so engaged in the 2nd and 3rd periods of the last game. It almost looked like we gave up on finishing checks or even held up sometimes. That's a big part of our game, and we have to play that way.

I don't know how it's possible and I'm sure I must be seeing something that isn't there, but in the third, there was a distinct lack of urgency or will to win. Lots of waving sticks instead of separating guys from pucks and lack of forechecking.

Our game is speed and size. If we don't use one or both, we won't beat the Preds. If we utilize our strengths game in and game out, I like our chances against anyone in the league.

Those are my thoughts for the limited amount I saw last night. We are tied with the best team in the league, right where everyone thought this series would be, but I, like many others, believe that we can be better than last night.

This! It's frustrating, but the 1982-83 Islanders made Gretzky, Messier, and all of the rest of the Oilers look stupid when they killed them 4-0 in the playoffs, but that was the final lesson they needed to learn, and the rest was history.

It's driving me crazy watching how our young guns have forgotten how to score, but if they're anywhere near as good as we think they are, they'll get a life lesson from this, and will be infinitely more effective next time.

Preds are rolling 4 lines, and the Jets are playing 3 because their 4th line is ground to a halt by Hendricks. That's going to be a problem as the series goes on. It's entirely preventable.

Do you really think Roslovic in for Hendricks would have that line playing more in most of these game situations?

Mathieu Perrault is about the only player who's addition could turn us into a 4th line time.

Roslo is a good young player but frankly unless you hit the blender hard he doesn't make us a 4 line team against the preds. Certainly not with Copp at center, and most likely not even if you switch little back to center.

Here's 5 players. Which one do want in the lineup.

A) CF% 43.7 P60 0.69
B) CF% 47.5 P60 1.04
C) CF% 49.9 P60 1.78
D) CF% 48.3 P60 2.3
E) CF% 47.9 P60 0.91

If you can't find a way to get 20 minutes for your top pair, you have no business running an NHL bench. I don't know if this is Huddy or Maurice, but if you aren't playing your best D enough, you aren't giving your team the best chance to win.

Even if it's Huddy it's ultimately Maurice.

Our strength is in our depth - we roll 4 lines.

Remember That?

Our coach has turned our 4 line team into a 3 line team. 3 line teams do not go deep in the playoffs. In simple terms you have to ask why has Maurice unneccessarily turned our 4 line team into a 3 line team at the time of the year where getting 10+ minutes from your fourth is most critical?

What could possibly be the explanation for the D utilization other than reacting to the other coach - you are playing his game even though you are in your own building. Why do you have 4th line plus 3rd D paring in D zone face off situation?

On the other bench, their adjustment to NZ trap with the lead completely stifled us. No meaningful adjustment from us.

You have to objectively ask if the Jets are being out coached.
We have been outcoached. It's pretty sad to see our coach not make any changes to things that continuously have been burning us this series. Our PK setup is terrible. We allow teams to set up and pass the puck around up top and fire at will. It either results in a goal against or one of our players injured from having to block shots. A blindfolded, sleeping, stuck-in-the-basement Stevie Wonder can see this, yet our coaches can't.

Oh and putting in Hendricks over fast, skilled younger guys has worked out splendidly.

NSH has outplayed us the majority of the series. They've figured us out and will finish us in 6.

It looks like handling the highs and lows of playoffs are harder on HF Jets posters than it is on the actual Jets.

I didn't have the Jets in 4.

I'll take a best of 3 with the Perds. I'm predicting we only need the next 2 games to vanquish them.

Those who dismiss the discussions here as negativity: I like to read all opinions and its easy to filter out the absurd or irrational. If these threads after a loss was just cheerleading it would be boring as hell.

Next year it will be some other player. If you think posters won't find a way to loose their shit if the Jets loose a game you're kidding yourself or new here.

Agreed with this. Personally I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm been jealous of other fan bases getting to experience this when we didn't have a team and then when we had a young team not yet ready. Few teams ever win the cup without experiencing huge swings of emotions and a mountain of adversity. If we ever find our way to a cup what we have experienced so far is a little ripple in a pond.
