Of course he wants back in....Habs paid him handsomely without any expectation of any offense.

What other team would pay a guy 6M and have him as their highest paid forward for 25pts a year?

Where else is he going to find a sweet deal like this?

it wont be 6 million this time...he got paid in a different era (Kovelev) and the HABS are the ones who screwed that up by not signing him to a $3.5 million long term contract at the time...remember that??!!! they gambled and it cost them a ton more...

Anyways, a new 1-2 yr deal in the 2 million area is great value ....

Look at it this way, if we do get him and he does the same thing as last year, we can get another 2nd for him. Why not?
Exactly. It's a much smarter route than selling the farm for ROR or overpaying Stastny. We're trying to Lose for Hughes anyway if we're smart, so why the hell not?

Most underrated HAB in recent times...

Regular season...

Saku Koivu had 641 pts in Habs jersey
Tomas Plekanec has 605 pts so far....and Pleky plays a shutdown role to boot.....

37 more points and Plek is in the top 10 all time for Habs scoring in reg season..... respect the man
Yeah no not really. Saku had 792 games with the habs. So you are comparing injury ridden 800 game player vs a guy that never played hard enough while playing with Kovy most of his early 1000 game career, his best seasons. While saku was playing the shut down role as #2. Saku played the PK in case you forgot.

Want to compare post season?

He signed a 2yr 12M in 2015 lol

No, it's not great value

It's a waste of money...you could get anyone currently on the roster to d the same job for half the price, probably even less

Danault could probably fill that role as a 3rd line centre though. As for Pleks. I realize it’s not all on him, but the team pk and defence was atrocious last season. He was part of that. JDL 4th line, maybe Drouin second line, and hopefully they find someone for the first.

If that's truly the goal, which I don't believe it is...

Then why not just allow DLR or McCarron or Evans or waivers Shaw or Froese to do the same job for a fraction of the price?

They'll still "lose for hughes" anyways, but with the added potential benefit of guys like DLR or McCarron or Evans actually learning and developing while doing it?

It's all about about points....in the Habs history books he will be Number 10 all time , removing Saku from the top 10...

Of all the guys to wear a Habs jersey , Plek will be number 10 all time for reg season points...that is something ......

Sign a bunch of ufas to 1 year deals and overpay if you have to so you can flip them at the deadline. That should be the plan for the off season.
Agreed. I could have been team Tavares/ROR combo if we had won the lottery, but as is, the best course of action is to continue the youth movement.

You still need vets to play the tough minutes, or you're going to ruin your young players.

And you propose doing this by signing a 35-36yr old veteran when you have young players capable of doing the exact same job?

explain that one to me?

Why do you need vets to play tough minutes if you're trying to lose anyways? lol

This makes no sense?

Don't you want your young players to learn? Don't these young players you keep referring too, need to be exposed to these situations (aka tough minutes)?

If you keep using has-been veterans in these situations, how are these young players you have supposed to learn/develop in those situations?
