Except in this case it's a younger player ostensibly on the ascending side of his career trajectory, whereas those 3 were not.
Yeah clearly he's good enough for the top line but not good enough to PP, can't be that he's more needed in a different more important role or any thing.
Seems he hit Tampas defense so hard this spring even their fans are a little concussed
Bro. Do you even know who you're talking about? You're talking about Tom Wilson. The guy that HITS! He also scored 35 points while riding shotgun with Backstrom, Kuznetsov and Ovechkin! He hits other teams players too. He also was like the 6th or 7th most important guy on his team in the playoffs!
Did I mention that he hits?
Ofcourse they would, GMs are dumb AF. That is why the likes of Lucic, Backes, Ladd etc all got big deals in 2015. But just because GMs make dumb, dumb moves doesn't justify the contract
Yeah like that big dumb GM who just won a cup with Wilson playing a ton of ES and SH minutes on the top line and PK and putting up 50 points in 20 games. If only we had John Chayka the basement dwelling corsi visionary
But hes not good enough for the top line. Plenty of coaches play bad players higher than they should. Lucic played on the top line/2nd line for the past 2 seasons despite being a third line level player
lmaooooooooooooooooooooWithout Tom the Caps would not have won the cup this year. Hes worth every penny.
This is the trap every cup winning team falls into after they win a cup, they think every bad decision they made was actually good and excuse every every dumb thing they did (The Erat trae was actually good since we won the cup! Every bad move was actually good). Enjoy the cup, make some good memories, but the Capitals will never sniff another cup again, and it will be due to making horrible moves like this

Right, the team that brought back every single member of the cup winning roster minus the 4c is in no position to sniff another cup.
Maybe if the players start sniffing whatever it is you seem to be.
Probably because he's scored a grand total of 35 goals in 5 seasons in the league? I'm no coach, but I would probably put guys who can score on the PP.
Why would a career sub 30 point player get PP time
Cool.
Peter Chiarelli won a cup too, so that automatically means trading a 1st for Reinhart and dealing Hall for Larsson must have been good moves too.
Unless it's possible that GMs can make bad decisions. And if that's possible, then maybe signing Wilson to his contract is a mistake too.
Right?
He could learn to fly and become superman. I'd lean more on the history of never being able to produce, even when paired with stars. Just me though. The Bruins had Jimmy Hayes on the PP in front of the net. hah
Wilson could take a beating in front screening the goalie, banging in rebounds on the 2nd unit, no?

There's a lot of overpaid guys in the league. TB has more than a few. Doesn't mean the fans don't love the player or that he isn't a good player. Just means he's overpaid. There's some kind of weird disconnect in this thread where people are linking overpaid with garbage player. I think a player like Wilson is very replaceable and worth somewhere between 3-4. He got more. Shout out to him. I like it when players can get their share or more, especially in hockey.
None of that changes the fact that he's overpaid right now. Cap keeps going up, or he finally decides to produce after 5 years in the league, it might be ok.
Those players also made up the most under-performing, disappointing, failure ridden team in recent memory prior to this year. Ask the Rangers, Devils, Flyers, Canucks and Bruins fans how their team did after impressive runs to the cup
You may need to head outside and chill out lmao.Yeah 15 ES points in 20 playoff games including the ones against le epic Tampa defense is no production whatsoever
Tyler Johnson must be one of those players that can't learn to produce considering Wilson has 2 less ES points than him
I'm just wondering how the negotiations went. Are we really to believe that the Caps couldn't get this deal done for under $5m? Did Wilson really dig in at $5.1m and the Caps just said "Well....we need this guy no matter what. Guess we have to pony up."? You have to think that if they shaved $1m off a year he'd still happily take it.
But, they won the cup so they can pretty much do whatever they want and still smile about it.

Johnson has been underwhelming since signing his deal. He'd be one I'd consider overpaid.
Tom Wilson is still overpaid. None of your little quips about the TB defense or who else might be overpaid changes that.
Sorry.
