Can't wait for this thread to get going

I'm fine with it. One year would have been better but given that they challenged him last year with a 1 year "prove it" contract and he had a career year, it's hard to argue he didn't deserve to be rewarded

Seems fair to me give his production, not sure we can keep him long term at that price, but that's not his fault.

Fair value. Like others have mentioned wouldn’t mind including him in a trade for a bigger piece

While I definitely want to see Tierney traded, I just dont see it happening unless we are getting a top-6 forward back. Someone that can push either Hertl or Thornton to 3C. While I am hoping that Suomela can step into that 3C role, I think it would be a bit pre-mature to slot him in to that role without having played a game at the NHL level.

Probably fair given the market. Going into the offseason I was thinking closer to $2,250,000 for Tierney and $5,000,000 for Hertl. So both got more money than I was hoping, but are not drastic overpays. Expiring as an RFA as opposed to UFA is key as well and probably has some dollar value to it.

I would say trade him. I think we run Thornton - Couture - Hertl down the middle, and find some quality wingers else where.

3 mil for a 4th line center is a severe overpayment. could've kept Fehr for half that and gotten equal production out of him. whatever.

Fire DW. :sarcasm:

I'm not that pleased with the second year. I would have been okay (but not thrilled) with one year at $3M.
The only way that 2nd year works out for us is if ONE of the two happens.

1. Tierney keeps up the level of production from last year. 3M for a 40 point center is more than fair.
2. We trade him right away. The 2nd year should increase his trade value at this time as its right after his career year.

Who's our 3C then in your lineup? Reality is Hertl-Couture are likely paired together,

Hertl or Thornton depending on the hot hand. Although I'm one of the few people on this board who think Hertl is more effective as a Winger then a Center, especially when paired with Thornton.

I think 2 is more likely than 1.

I don't think they could seriously contend for Seguin next offseason after all of these huge contracts, which sucks because this team badly needs a top center.

Glad he’s staying, for the time being, it’s nice to see a player prove their worth. It would be nice if every player did that but that’s not realistic.

You'd simply cut ties with Tierney with the hopes you could land a Fehr type replacement for the $$ you want vs holding onto a tradeable asset that has value? That's terrible asset management.

These were the only Comparisons I could find. Seems on par with Andreas.

I am fine with this, good for Wilson to come in under $3MM. Tierney is only 24 so still has room to develop, let's hope he does.
