Remember when I said benching Gustafsson and Schenn for Meszaros-Gill was playing with fire arbitrarily? Yeah...sad thing is it's going to have taken Berube at least three games to realize that and possibly more since it remains to be seen if these lineup shenanigans will continue.

I can accept this team being so terrible to a degree, but there's literally zero excuse for the coaching situation that Holmgren completely mishandled and zero excuse for not maximizing the team's chance to win with extremely poor and extremely confusing lineup decisions.

That's revisionist history right there. I can't remember any sizeable contingent of fans that wanted Richards traded. Everyone was in utter shock when he was moved. Some people were bitter about Carter's underwhelming playoffs and his shot that was saved in Game 6, but it was hardly a huge amount that wanted him traded. Carter's value was discussed on here, as it made sense as a hockey trade to move him for a defenseman or a winger, but he was hardly run out of town by fans.

The media were the only ones who helped them get traded.

Furthermore, that was after losing in the second round the year after going to the finals. Giroux has been captain for two seasons and the team has all but been eliminated within the first month both years.

He's not completely to blame, but he deserves a large share of it. Holmgren and Snider also deserve a heaping pile of blame for giving him that contract after a mediocre year. That contract could be an anchor around this team's neck for eight years if something doesn't change quick.

I'm not talking about the Hf fan base that's relatively well informed, but rather the fan base at large who will immediately turn against players based on a couple crap articles from Timmy. See: reaction to Richards and Carter after the 2011 Boston series.

I just think with this game, it rubbed it into Berube's face on how the decision was.

Yeah, I guess I may have missed some of that. I stopped visiting sites with other Flyers fans long ago.

We haven't even been given an actual reason from the front office or Berube himself about this ridiculousness. It's not like Schenn just got magically benched either, his ice-time was steadily an greatly decreasing way before his first benching.

It's mystifying really.

I think the flyers should look into going full sixers. Gut the franchise of all high prices veterans that you can, start from scratch, be in the running for ekblad this year and then mcdavid the year after.

The Schenn scratching is bad, but this team has way too many players just like him. Not saying he's worse than them, but I don't think him being scratched has a huge impact on this team. Gustafsson, on the other hand, has been one of the only defensemen (or players, period) on this team that has actually produced offense. He's also probably been the most mistake free defenseman on the team. Why Berube is scratching him for his one glaring mistake of the season, in a game already out of reach, is baffling.

The scratching of both is baffling, especially considering the replacements are the god awful Meszaros and the defensive/PK specialist pylon Gill.

who was it that deflected the puck off his skate into the net on the 2nd goal?

Just saw a better replay....Mez. Great play on the 3rd goal as well

wtf was he thinking?

If he's in the line-up next game....

The first goal against was a simple -1.
The second goal was an atrocious loss of puck, stick and hockey sense, followed by a blooper-reel kick at an otherwise undangerous shot.
The third goal was just hilarious.

I imagine we're the only team with a 4 million dollar cap hit 7th D that might not even be capable of being a 7th D.
