Gretzky, Messier came out of nowhere?

Gretzky was never drafted. He was part of the team when they entered the NHL from the WHA. Messier was drafted 48th overall.

I like it. It’s a little extra reward for winning the Cup. Getting the first non lottery pick. Usually the draft is a crap shoot from picks 15 to 31 anyways.
