"and you cant do it" what an asinine statement. I would have to be on the team, or a psychic to now "HOW" he lost the team. Im an observer, and none of the players are playing together, no confidence, no positive energy, no direction, etc. Apparently you have not seen Al Arbour coach. It is easy to see the dysfunction in how Trotz speaks and "coaches" this team. The players used to say "I would go thru a wall for AL Arbour" ... Notice none of trotz players feel this way about him.

That's what happens in a slump. They grip their sticks tighter, they aappear to be a step slow, they hesitate because they are second guessing themselves. It happens to teams.

Apparently you have not seen Al Arbour coach.
I'm 57 years old and have season tickets since 1981. I've probably been watching this team since before you were born.

The players used to say "I would go thru a wall for AL Arbour" ... Notice none of trotz players feel this way about him.
This is another one of your observations?

Is it possible the caps won that cup in spite of him? Is it possible they ignored his "dont shoot unless perfect play" crap? I heard the caps players complain about this, and they were right. This is a false philosophy and I cannot understand why you dont see this? Did Al Arbour, the best coach in history, have this philosophy or the opposite? Think.. Think.
Well the Capitals have been losing the last 2 years in spite of Todd Riordan.

Maybe the Caps were better off with the devil they knew.

They did a hell of a lot better against Carolina than we did. And 3 points out of 2nd overall in the league right now. Not too bad, without the coaching God.

I get why people say “well nothing else is working now so try the kids-we have nothing to lose” but that’s not true. To have kids come up here and not be able to play the game the way the coaches structured it is asking for trouble. Almost every prospect in Bridgeport was up here and played at one time this season, with the exception of Simon Holmstrom. Some may have had flashes like Bellows did, but in the big picture none of them produced enough to warrant a longer look. Better they stay in the AHL and learn the pro game down there than get trucked up here.

Yep, let them over-ripen, just like that juggernaut in Detroit always does . . . the one that I guess failed to ripen enough to avoid this horrendous year they are having

Those rumblings look a little like this:

View attachment 332005

Some highlights:

.568 regular season, .488 in the playoffs

.380 with Nashville in the playoffs, took him until his SIXTH season to even make the playoffs

No Division championship until he got to Washington

One Cup with an immense amount of talent.

I say again, it was clear it wasn't money with the Caps, Leonsis is far richer than our owners.

And look at the Team Stats in the Cup winning season: 15th overall in goals allowed, 9th in goals for!

The previous year they were #1 in goals allowed and #3 in goals for and LOST IN THE 2nd ROUND

One further point about the Washington years from the same data link:

Year One: 6th and 6th GF and GA
Year Two: 2nd and 2nd
Year Three: 3rd and 1st
Cup Year: 9th and 15th

What happened? Players going off the ranch? Trotz adapting? Caps just got hot at the right time?

What is clear is that SOMETHING changed.

Nashville was an expansion team in the pre-cap era. You're really going to hold it against Trotz that it took an expansion team 6 seasons to make the playoffs before League parity as result of the salary cap and without the modern expansion draft rules?

A lot of numbers. So you think this is on Trotz and he should be fired?

I absolutely KNOW its on trotz because I see exacly what can be observed. He is telling them dont shoot unless a perfect play, and this is false. The caps players complained of exactly this. The caps complained and got Reirden to handle the offense. Then won a cup with this setup. Barry t has no clue of the mental side of "Coaching the person first, then the player" like Arbour did. And his asinine comments that we dont have enough good players is absurd. Great message to the players that you already have. YES in every way I blame his philosophies and big mouth. Totally opposite to Arbour

Funny, took Arbour 2 years and that was much worse for the expansion draft back then. Torrey said in the History video they knew pretty much everyone they got was going to be gone soon (Smith was the excpetion).

6 years is a lot where half the teams make the playoffs.

funny thing is, its not like we dont know how the players feel. THe caps players complained about this "dont shoot" system and got it changed. Reirden was allowed to handle the offense and they won a cup this way. Isnt this a red flag? Or the seasons nashville never won a thing under him? Come on people

Let's make this clear.

I am not in favor of firing Trotz, but I am in favor of looking at this with a clear mind; he is not the be all and end all of coaching and to put him on that pedestal is wrong. If he won't adapt to his personnel in any way then he is not bringing a Cup here.

Those 4 years of stats from Washington I put above are not made up. It wasn't until he let go of the control freak aspect of whatever system they were playing there that they made the run to the Cup. Those numbers DON'T LIE.

15th in GA and 9th in GF. Not 2 and 2, not 3 and 1, not 6 and 6.

What changed that year? Clearly he finally felt he had to adjust HIS thinking.
