People using "Washed up" and "Lecavalier" in the same sentence should really reconsider watching hockey.
He may not be his past dominant self, but that is a helluva distance from actually being "washed up". He's a strong player, and should remain so.
Also, if Vinny want to lower the pressure he'd receive in Montreal, then maybe he should sign at reasonable price so the expectation ain't that high in the first place? 4.5M is quite reasonable, and people will love him as a strong 1.5C position, alongside Pleky.
Maybe not washed up, but...he's a guy I'd want more effort from if he came here. The injuries and length/amount of contract are other factors that scare me.
If a guy's lost the passion for hockey, playing in Montreal will make it a chore to come to the rink, not motivate him. Guys like Subban Gallagher and Prust feed off the enthusiasm of the fans.
Also, a 4.5-5 mil cap hit isn't bad for this year, but if he turns into a 3rd liner like Arnott in 2 years and he has a 4.5-5 mil cap hit then it becomes a "gomez" or a "Kaberle" type contract pretty quick. He's 33 and has missed 20% of games the last 3 years on a consistant basis...65/82 64/82 39/48 that's a definite trend.
I wouldn't be pissed if we got him, but I can see other players we can spend our money on also...I'll trust MB and co in this situation. Hopefully Molson isn't getting involved in this and lets his hockey people make the call based on what's right for the team long term.
