The Sabres are one of the best teams in the league, and Jack Eichel still doesn’t get any love

If you don't think Eichel is elite at anything you need to watch more hockey. There are like 2 players in the league who can match his transition abilities.

Jack is criminally underrated. I maybe a Leafs fan, but I am a hockey fan first. I have always come to the defence of Eichel, great player.

Skinner is this decade's Milan Hejduk. A winger who is responsible for all of the success of the centre (Eichel or Sakic). Yet the winger gets overlooked due to east coast Canadian bias
Obviously Sakic wasn't propped up by Hejduk before Hejduk began his NHL career. But by about 2000 Hejduk was leading the league in scoring.

1998-1999 Sakic 96 points (5th), Hedjduk 48 points
1999-2000 Sakic 81 points (tied for 8th), Hejduk 72 points
2000-2001 Sakic 118 points (2nd), Hejduk 79 points
2001-2002 Sakic 79 points (tied for 5th in league), Hejduk 44 points

It wasn't until 2002-03 that Hejduk (98 points in 82 games) outscored Sakic (58 points in 58 games), but Hejduk never led the league (Forsberg, Naslund and Thornton were all ahead of Hejduk).

And then...
2003-2004 Sakic 87 points (tied for 2nd), Hejduk 75 points
2005-2006 Sakic 87 points (tied for 17th), Hejduk 58 points
2006-2007 Sakic 100 points (tied for 6th), Hejduk 70 points
2007-2008 Sakic 40 points in 44 games (0.91 ppg), Hejduk 54 points in 77 games(0.70 ppg)
2008-2009 Sakic 12 points in 15 games (0.80 ppg), Hejduk 59 points in 82 games (0.72 ppg)
Did you miss my post earlier (quoted directly above) that showed basic stats don't support your view?
Hejduk never led the league in scoring & in 2000 Sakic outscored Hejduk 81 to 72 (and Sakic outscored Hejduk 118 to 79 the following year!)

Its time that great wingers are given credit for their accomplishments. Like Eichel, Sakic never led the league in scoring even once.
From 2000 (when you said Hejduk was leading the league) Sakic was top 10 six times and Hejduk once

From 1999-2007 Sakic had 706 points and Hejduk had 507

Points received are not points earned. Nor are they points deserved.

For example the advanced stats since the NHL started tracking them in 2001 show Sakic only had 8 adjusted points in 2002 and 12 goals in 2003.

Yeah I would take Eichel over Mathews for sure.

Can you please provide a link that shows Sakic's 79 points turned into 8 adjusted points? Or is this made up like your saying Hejduk led the league in scoring was made up?

He's no Marner but he seems to be reaching his potential finally.

GM Jack's off season moves and his hiring of Housley seemed to gave worked out.
OK, one more time: after the 16-17 season the Sabres conducted player exit meetings. Every player pretty much said Bylsma sucked and had to go. The players ASKED Eichel to go to ownership and management to voice their concern that the coach was a tire fire. Pegulia then told GMTM to fire Bylsma, and he refused. So Pegulia said fine, you're fired as well.

I imagine not having Evander Kane stapled to his line has helped Eichel’s game. Addition by subtraction.

Why even respond to that post? Those are the ones I just skip or put the poster on ignore. Better ways to spend my time than letting stuff like that bother me.

One of my early gambles in fantasy this year picked up him and Skinner, it's paying off so far. Guys putting up elite shot rates looks like the goals are starting to come finally him and Skinner look unreal.

He’s up there in that group with Rantanen, Matthews, Mack, Kucherov and Barkov vying to be second best behind McDavid.
The order will likely switch from year to year.

Yea it's totally the GM. Can't be that adding a potential generation dman to a team loaded with lottery picks is finally paying off.

Eichel is definitely underrated. Borderline elite player. Its the market he plays in, which sounds weird to say since Buffalo is a great hockey city and should be better marketed. If he played in Toronto, MTL, CHI, NYR, PHI or PIT he'd get much more love

They have now lost 5 straight are you sure?

I knew this was coming. They have two complete fraud Goalies, and no depth.

Their top line kicks butt and they have two good D-Men. And that's it.

I still think they have a very good young team coming up. but some of the Sabres fans on here earlier..........LOL. Jesus.

Let's be honest though:

Buffalo is finally turning a corner with their rebuild. The issue isn't the talent or the experience, but the goaltending and the defense. Sounds suspiciously like Toronto before the house of cards came collapsing down on the franchise. But the difference is that Buffalo actually has talent compared to the 2013 Leafs, so I'm not too concerned about their team going forward. Their rebuild is definitely on track, it's just going to take some time for the franchise to gel a bit.

Which Sabres fans in particular? I know in the thread about their winning streak I said I was just happy they've were watchable again. Most Sabres fans in that thread were reasonable.
