well i would consider him a steal just by looking at our drafting history :(

Yup, hence the comment about the bar being set so low, unfortunately.

Reality is that most organizations who've had good drafting over the last decade or so have had many more prospects of the ilk that some Canucks fans here have labelled "steals" based on their jr aged play.

And a good chunk of those guys still fail to have an impact in the NHL.

Most impressive thing about McKenzie is how far away he is from the rest of his teammates in points. With the exception of Harland, he has double the points of any other player on that team. Obviously different pedigrees, but Monahan-like in his dominance on a poor team.

Nice pick.

When you look at the centre depth in Utica, he's definitely worth a contract....but tempered by the fact that he turns 20 in March and went through two drafts unclaimed....could be a late bloomer, but you'd expect him to be putting up points as essentially on overager in the OHL.

Jasek has been hot since the world juniors. 13 points in 9 games in the Czech 2nd league since returning. Up to 5th on his team in scoring and 2nd in PPG.

On the otherhand Laplante is showing us why the Coyotes didn't bother signing him. Only 2 points in 8 ECHL games.

Terrible. Another pointless prospect signing who will sit on the books for another few years toiling away in Alaska.

You are not really an over ager if you turn 20 at the end of the OHL season and are 20 for your first pro season.

Brisebois had 3A and was +6 as Charlottetown demolished Moncton 13-2...

Apparently very smart and calm like Juolevi :)

Not saying there the same actually never seeing Briesbois play just going by what some of the experts are saying

The Hitmen are playing the Giants right now on Sportsnet. It's a good opportunity to look at Jakob Stukel and Ty Ronning. The Canucks could have used their sixth round pick (Stukel) or seventh-round pick (Abols) to select Ronning.

Ronning's production rate hasn't increased since last year; he's still scoring at the same rate as in 2015-16, even though Tyler Benson has played more games with the Giants this season.

Stukel hasn't been effective so far; the Hitmen have looked pretty bad too, being outshot 17-5 so far after one period.

5 minutes into the second period, a puck hit Stukel in the mouth; he left the ice.

... and Ronning has his 20th of the season off of a nice takeaway and shot.

Stukel returns with 3 minutes remaining in the second period.

Stukel scores at the side of the net on the powerplay one minute into the third period. Nice set-up from Malenstyn, who had the puck between the hash marks.

Acceleration remains an issue for Jakob Stukel. His first few strides don't get him very far.

I think he can become a 4th line center in the mold of Brad Richardson.

Beautiful pass by Stukel to set up Gennaro for the first OT chance, the ensuing sequence resulting in the OT goal seconds later for Gennaro. Stukel was responsible for that zone entry as well, getting around the Giants defender and keeping possession of the puck afterward with his reach.

That was Stukel's best sequence of the game.

He had very good positional awareness in this game, on numerous occasions being open in front of the net for a scoring chance but rarely receiving the puck from his teammates. He had a good backhand opportunity off of a rebound earlier in the game; he also had Calgary's first shot of the match.
