Bigger body though. 50 goals nonetheless.

For perspective on who Holland will draft... Look for guys ranked in the 20s. He loves his potentially underrated guys

They had bouchard, samourakov, bear and caleb jones as D prospects, they have ZERO legit good forward prospects.

The narrative as an excuse not to take a good forward last year was BPA, our forwards are fine, yada yada yada, now it is imperative to get a forward all of a sudden.

None of them are guarantees. Bouchard was blue chip but could still end up being a PP specialist bottom pairing guy (unlikely but it depends on his commitment)/ Samurokov has a long ways to go and was looking good, seemed to have a step back this year. Bear didn't look like much until he took that extra step this offseason, and Caleb Jones could end up being a 5D at best. Having another chance at a top 4D (or even top pairing guy) wasn't a bad choice with that in mind, and with where they're drafting this year it looks even better.

You're going to need to elaborate here. I've been pretty adamant that paying a bottom pair Dman over $2m moving forward isn't going to fly with us long term. Especially when you're talking about easing in Bouchard at some point next season. There's also the concern regarding Benning's concussion history.

Get what you can for him.

I agree with you in principle but I think Benning can be more than a bottom pairing defenseman.

We have never really given him a bigger role but I like his game. He is easily the best hitter on the team, scores at a respectable rate and has always been a huge + player for what that is worth.

I'd argue they are on paper a better team than us now and going forward
Kakko, Kravtsov, Shesterkin and now Laf. That’s 4 unbelievably talented youngsters. They have no problem adding free agents either. NYR gonna beast real soon.

Yeah, just our pro scouts seem to be much worse at the moment than the amateur scouts considering we grabbed Bear, Yamamoto, Caleb Jones, Bouchard etc. recently

Hopefully the UFA guys picked up this year are a sign of better pro scouting ahead. Archibald, Haas, Sheahan were decent signings. (I'd put Nygaard there but he wasn't exactly under the radar and was in reasonably high demand.)

Maybe. To me they're the Leafs of the US. If it wasn't for them buying a cup in '94 people would be talking about their futility more than the Leafs. Maybe they won't f*** it up this time around. I'm hoping they do though, f*** em. (And I felt that way before the lotto win.)

I feel like we're going to end up with Dawson Mercer. Seems like an Oilers type pick. He played together with Olivier Rodrigue for two seasons so Oilers brass should be very familiar with him and will also obviously have some insight into who he is, what he's like as a teammate etc. Also he's ranked pretty much exactly where the Oilers pick.

Let's face it PC rushed this rebuild with McDavid coming to this team. He set the team back with trading picks and trading top 6 players in panic moves. Getting McDavid was amazing but also a curse. Oilers didn't have any depth to build within. Management needs to stay the course even tho McDavid is getting into his long term contract. Holland needs to draft players and build a core of prospects. It sucks to waste some years of 2 allstars but I think it will pay off in the long run.

They had 4 less points than us this year and are rebuilding and just added an elite forward. They are on paper, a better team. If they were in the Pacific they would of probably had more points than us easily

I agree. Besides, the D in the system are high end potential. Keep Benning. Trade a high profile D for the more significant return. We should get rid of 2 D this summer. Gotta make room for Jones to be a regular, and also Bouchard.

That's a tall order. Maybe Larsson and Nurse or Klef

I can see your point. Fact is they DID win in ‘94 and it doesn’t matter how.
Panarin can be looked at as Tavares I guess but I doubt he slept under a Rangers blanket as a kid. NY already has Toronto beat in net and in a year or two will mop the floor with the Leafs.

I'm fine with the Rangers winning since they are in the East and are not Pittsburgh or Toronto.

Anyone have a breakdown of the players at 14th overall? We should be able to draft a top six forward.

We have absolutely given him a bigger role at times and he's clearly struggled. If Benning was able to step up in a larger role, there's a small chance Peter Chiarelli would still be employed.

I don't think he has the natural ability to thrive in a larger role. He's not fluid enough with the puck, nor is he particularly adept in the defensive zone. What he has been was the very necessary depth we required in a time where we had absolutely no prospects breaking in at the position. I'm convinced he is what he is at this point and we're not in a position to risk wins to see how much we can rely on him moving forward.

It's also pretty clear what Ken Hitchcock and Dave Tippett thought of his upside. He's seen a clear decline in his usage two years running.

The draft ball thread is a tire fire and closed for business so I can't post this there.

But jebus. A dozen pages of angry oilers fans posts about the ball drop.

C'mon, we're the last fanbase in the world to be complaining about this.

That said hilarious that the NHL dropped the ball. Its what they do.

I disagree. Managment has really messed up our cap situation. We have overpaid too many non-impactful players and have a lot of dead space in buyouts. Trading the pick now doesn't make us a contender IMO.

Fair enough. But we have to be aware that if we don't put people around 97 and 29, we will very likely lose them to trade demands. The window of 29/97 is 5 years and ticking..... Trade demands likely happen before that

Not sure where ot put this since the lottery thread got locked so fast,

But I'm surprised there hasn't been any outrage considering NYR won the 2nd overall pick just last year lol. That is some insane luck with those odds.
