Even though my interest in the team dipped to an all time low the last several years because of Brown, Bell and Tomlin, I’ve always looked fwd to the draft.

I’m hoping they do something bold, but it’s the Steelers so I’m not going to set myself up too hard either.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about them firing Tomlin at the draft, but Colbert actually has been bold a few times when they've really loved a guy.

I'll be really curious to see where Hockenson goes. I could see New England making a move to get him. He'd be a perfect Gronk replacement. I wish we didn't have such huge holes because he's perfect for us.

The secondary is set. ILB isn't the desperate need it was with the Barron signing. We have the same OLB's. We have wideouts. I still think they try to move up to go ILB, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a swerve like Hockenson. It certainly would add a different dimension to the Steelers passing game.

Agreed - I wish we had the luxury of being able to use a first on Hock. But our linebackers are trash and it must be addressed. It just sucks we got such a piss poor return for AB.

If it's impossible to snag either of the Devins, then it's a waste to use #20 on a LB.

yep! i'm thinking we could have someone fall into our lap at 20. but then I would be dying to move up with the next pick, and get Wilson . don't thik he will fall that much out of the first.

BTW, I still think they go ILB. I was just saying it's not as much of an immediately desperate need as it was last offseason.

Hockenson is a Rob Gronkowski clone. Gronk is bigger in general (heavier, way longer arms, way bigger hands) but you could take Gronk's scouting profile from his draft year and Hockenson's this year and you wouldn't be able to tell the two apart.

I don't think we will move up to get white, and i'm not sold on bush.
(see my post above) so that leaves mack, and I don't want to spend our 1st on him.

Preaching to the choir. :D

With AB going, the Steelers are going to have to tweak the offense regardless. Hockenson with McDonald and Juju and Montcreif stretching the field. I'm not saying it would be better or worse, but the Steelers certainly could give teams a lot of looks they haven't seen and create some matchup issues for opponents IF they went for Hockenson.

This is where I'm at really if they dont trade up and both Devins are gone, grab Hock and then look for Pratt in round 2.

If both Devins and Hock are gone, start looking at whoever is left at edge like Polite, Burns , and MAYBE certain WR like AJ Brown.

They may do one of those things anyway, but, yes, concur 100% about the dilemma.

BTW, I suspect Bush is gone before #20 too.

I wonder if they might consider CB too. Yes, I know, they signed Nelson, but I've seen several mocks suggesting Murphy.

Mack's 40 time almost certainly knocked him into the 2nd round.

Unless a team gets ancy. Plus Pratt isnt that far behind him.

With Tomlin’s history of picking CBs, please lord don’t let this be true....

It always makes me laugh when people call Tomlin a defensive specialist. Yeah, he was a defensive backs coach for 5 years on a good Tampa team, except that was Monte Kiffin's defense and show.

BUT, the ONE SEASON he got to be a defensive coordinator, his defense was pedestrian, gave up a lot of points, and while being great against the run was the WORST pass defense in football.

Defensive guru/specialist my ass.

Murphy is smart which I like and has good turn in the hips but i am terrified of how skinny he is.

Actually all top 3 CBs are thin framed. I see them having a hard time in the nfl until they add bulk and will that slow them down? Durability issues until then?

Plus I'm not sure Greedy and Murphy make it to us either. I think only Baker is left.

Players I'd be cool with by round.

1st - white, bush, hockensen, polite, sweat. Worst case AJ Brown.

2nd/early 3rd - Pratt, Winovich, Oruwariye,
Ya-Sin, Gardner Johnson,
McLaurin, Boykin

He is only a sophomore. A couple of years younger than most. Not surprising that he is not fully grown.

If he played another two years and continued to develop, both physically and as a player, he would likely go top five.

We are already better on D before the draft with Nelson over Sensabaugh and Barron starting with Bostic as the backup. Barron- Bostic- Bince. The new 3 Bs? Ha. If we do get Bush thats 4.

But we could go Hockenson..and id be happy. Next year ILBs Paddy Fisher and Bama's Dylan Moses(whos much better than Mack Wilson) would be the prime targets at that position.

Still think we just go bpa in the first . And with how many options we will have I dont think we can go wrong. We will get an impact player. Can always get another ILB in the 2nd or with one of our 3rds. Just get the best possible players whatever the position is. Them being so close to the 2017 class(not having to sign any of these guys to big deals) the next few years will be our best chance to win it all. We will have to start letting some guys go eventually. To re-sign 2017 class...etc.

This is the most important draft for us in a long time. Can really put us over the top

Let's say we stay at 20 and the Devins are gone.

Greedy/Murphy/Baker/Hock/surprise drop in the 1st.

Pratt/Wilson 2nd

Winovich/Isabella 3rd.

Perfect example of how deep this draft is. Being a Mich fan tho Ive wanted Bush and Winovich since the season was still going on. Bush was all over the place and Winovich constantly in the backfield even tho hes not considered "athletic". But a non stop motor and a great leader. Thats what we need. Both him and Bush are solid leaders and smart players. And the type of players the Steelers keep needing to add.

But yeah if both Devins are gone...any of those options in the first would be great.

Id go...

Hockenson
Wilson
Winovich

In your scenario. Two more additions on D to go with Barron and Nelson. And a helluva TE in Hockeson who could help our offense immediately. Him and Vance would be great together. Juju, Moncrief, and Washington as our top 3 WRs. Conner and Samuels as the RBs.

Thats a solid group.

And the motivation they'll have. especially Ben and our Oline who we should all love...having Ben's back thru this BS lately. Foster one of my fav players now with what hes been saying. He stuck around when he could have bailed and had Ben's back while also mentioning they are taking names....theyll be extra motivated all season finally.

Maybe losing the talent we did was what we needed. The expectations were so high and that added pressure. Now we have more of a "team". A better D and a well rounded offense.

For reasons you noted, I've seen mixed mocks as to where Murphy and Williams go.

Randy Roethlisberger better not call a pass every single play again this season if we want to make the playoffs. I think it’s naive to think we will be better, at least offensively, with far less talent this year.

Good point.

Then again, you don't want Conner running the football either.

Hmm.
