Hmmmm. As you were saying....

TSN1200 has a new show on Sunday mornings. I did not listen, but through Twitter, it appears as though the first two guests on this brand new show were Ian Mendes and AJ Jacubek. Way to step it up guys.

I listened to it. The Sunday Morning Scrubs. It wasn't completely terrible. But that's about it.

You are correct that Ian and AJ were the first guests  The hosts did not seem very confident in their braodcast. They just lob balled Heritage Classic questions at Ian such as "why do you think this game doesn't have a true outdoor game feel to it, is it because of the roof likely to be closed?", and you could tell Ian was trying to be really nice by replying with "well that's a very good point...". That was the extent of the insight this show provided me.

I chuckled to myself when AJ had to hang up and call back due to a bad connection (prank? likely not but funny) and the hosts had no idea what to do so they reverted to telling us the line combos for the game Sunday instead of sharing a take on what they had been discussing.

Anyway I complained in the radio thread here a few months ago that their weekend show schedule was brutal, so I can at least praise the station for trying a new sports/hockey show on Sunday mornings. I hope the hosts get more confident, and the show could become more listenable with more interesting guests (and this goes for the whole station: stop interviewing the Carleton University coach every 2 days ffs. I go to CU and even I don't want to hear it.) The takes the two hosts had were very generic and casual sports fan-esque and I hope that improves with more shows under their belts.

Edit - add the coach of the Carleton Place Canadians to guests who they should stop bringing on every 2 days. Stuff's happening in the NHL right now, a MTL trade just happened, Conacher and Corvo were just waived. Interview a league insider? Nah, we'll interview a coach of some minor league team in the boonies.

boy did shawn simpson just make a lot of sense that last segment. pretty much summed up my feeling exactly.
-trade michalek and phillips if they're not coming back(shouldn't)
-think about trading spezza this summer
-good core to build around, but not there yet
-teams that play this way may make the playoffs, but if they do don't last long

The problem isn't Shawn Simpson making sense (which is rare). The problem is that Shawn Simpson is going to make those four points in every segment today, and tomorrow as well as in his Simmer at 7 appearance tomorrow and attempt to take full credit for these "comments" come true.

Really though?? These statements are groundbreaking statements?? He is supposed to be an "insider". Any one of us could have called in the post game show and made those points. From a so-called "hockey insider" listeners should expect more.

PS. Teams that play "this way"?? What is "this way"?? Simmer's new thing is about "playing proper hockey", he has never really defined what that is. But, I will go on the record and say that anyone who does anything properly is bound to succeed at what they do properly.

Way to go Simmer!!

I heard parts of it. They sounded really nervous and Ian and AJ gave them a much needed break.

I'll wait to see what they do when they relax a bit. Its good to have a local show on though as I dont bother listening to the other stuff except for Jim Rome.

Todd White

I'm really liking Todd White with Lloydy and Yorky, maybe they could use him more not sure what he does for his "real" career. Maybe he could replace one of Eric Mac's spots or be on the Power hour once in awhile. I like his stories, they compliment Yorky well.

Interesting that Simmer has beeen saying for a while now that he thought Hemsky was the best fit for the Ottawa Senators as we approached deadline day. Good call Simmer. :handclap:

Also interesting that Cammy wasn't picked up by anybody, just like Simmer foreshadowed

Isn't that basically what Burke said about Ryan, isn't that what some on here have been saying today about Ryan, it's not the first time I have heard that about Ryan. You must have heard that before about Ryan haven't you? I would think it's common knowledge not to mention that he came to camp in not the best shape.

Ian Mendes

I just want to give credit to Ian Mendes for trying to get more female guest and perspective on the show. Now if only he can control his co-host sexist remarks the show would be great.

And this is why I don't understand why anyone bothers listening to radio people talk about this kind of stuff.

Ratings

Does any know where I can find the rating for the various tsn shows? I googled but didn't have any luck. I can't believe they are the best these days with the same people being rehashed show after show. Seriously, as much as I love AJ we don't need him calling into "In the Box" every day. I'm waiting for Warneys to start calling into the Drive. I think it might be getting time to find a new place to get my hockey fix.

I tune into In The Box jsut now, and all I hear is Don Brennan. Turned it right off, I'll try again in half an hour lol

If i wanted to know what that windbag has to say I'd buy a copy of the ****** newspaper he represents, that was overpriced when it was still a quarter.

Oh good yes.
Talk Sens or hockey already! Half an hour taling to Carleton basketball guy, then another half hour talking about some rec league events. Dead air. Dead air. Dead air.
Just talk hockey.

Look, I know Jason York is a homer/sell-out to the team. So is 90% of the station outside Ian Mendes and Steve Lloyd, but how about some critical view of the team or calling in some other markets to talk about the Senators or their teams?

They walk a fine line. Take to harsh a stance, they bite the hand that feeds them. That's just the reality of it. It's business.

That shows TSN1200 is listened to two hours per day on everage, based on total listening hours per person surveyed.

Other sports radios...well TSN1050 is ok but it's Leafs focused unfortunately, but Dave Naylor is decent (better than most on TSN1200) and they have the TO guys with real sources/conent. I hear 1310 AM has some sports info too and they are more serious than TSN1200, which is basically bush-league all around.

I get this but in MTL and TO they are critical and they haven't lost airspsace or whatever. Granted, those two cities can get out of hand but there has to be some balance between "Toe party line" and "Attack dog".

Interesting article. Really looks like TSN1200 is not doing overly well. When you are competing for listeners with Rouge and Dawg FM, maybe your station needs some sort of an overhaul.

The funny thing is that I still listen even though I can't stand many of the hosts. Unfortunately, I only listen when I am in the car, if things were better, maybe I would listen more at home or at work. However, listening to the TGOR guys read emails for an hour an a half every morning is pure garbage.

Hmmmm. Like I say, Just an idea, maybe the station needs to AFFECT CHANGE (as Simmer would say).

Thanks for the link, I'm sure the boast in the Spring was do to the playoffs. Be interesting to see what this winter's rating will be. I was hoping for a rating per show time. Maybe that would help the Ivory Tower see what needs to be improved.

I was wondering what that earlier post meant. Just don't let Simmer doing the change or it will turn into radio porn.
