I wouldn't mind Lucic on a 1 or 2 year deal here.

Only reason I'd bring him in is to help guys like Virtanen develop better with someone who he can look up to.

okay i figured it out. benning basically paid montreal to take kassian off our hands because when he signs lucic next summer, he doesn't want him to have a drinking buddy.

You don't need a power forward on the roster to develop a power forward. Just as you don't need a mentoring goaltender. Especially when virtanen should be playing a different game than Lucic. Ya they are big and can hit but Vurtanen is a much better skater and should be playing much more of a speed game.

Let's get Ovechkin to mentor Virtanen.

Assuming McCann and Hutton are the real deal, then adding Lucic would compliment this group moving forward next year.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Baertschi - Horvat - Lucic
Gaunce - McCann - Virtanen
Kenins - Sutter - Hansen
(Dorsett)

Edler - Tanev
Byfuglien - Bean
Hutton - Corrado
(Weber)

Markstrom
Miller

How are we getting Byfuglien and who is Bean?

The thing about adding Lucic is that you don't need a 'tough' 4th line anymore. Lucic will be on the ice 17-20 minutes a game. That's a whole period.

Then you can run a skill 4th line.

U just want 4 lines that can score.

Mix the grit to every line.

say we traded Miller

Say Markstrom outright dominated, and left Eddie with even fewer games than he got last year.

Would you feel bad that Eddie again is a back up with no where to go?

Crossed my mind as Markstrom was silencing the haters.

Markstrom was very shaky with a questionable NHL future this time last year. He still hasn't proven he's a NHLer. He looks amazing now but who knows where he'd be without that extra season in Utica last year. I respect you and your question but it's too much of a hypothetical to really have a good answer to.

No. He would still be cheaper than Miller. That would leave us room to sign another big player on July 1st to trade at the deadline for picks to accelerate the rebuild. Then we could trade Lack next year for a real return (aka not a 3rd which was far below market value) and get a veteran backup or see if one of our prospects can make the jump.

Huh? We have 3 goalies in Miller, Lack and Markstrom

The best tandem, if Markstrom breaks out, is Lack and Markstrom.
The cheapest tandem is Lack and Markstrom.
The youngest tandem is Lack and Markstrom.

Why is there any reason in the world to keep Miller?
Trade Miller, that's it. If Markstrom is absolutely dominant and steals the starting job from Lack, either run with 2 goalies or trade Lack for a package similar to what Jones/Lehner/Talbot got and sign a veteran backup. Alternatively, you could trade Markstrom for that package.

Either way, there is literally no reason to keep Miller in any situation.

Maybe Hasek will come out of retirement.

Oh wait, he's a softie European, so he has negative leadership values =[

Oh but Hasek was quite good in scrums....well media scrums anyways.

Throughout his NHL career, Dominik Hasek would show bursts of intense anger that sometimes got in the way of his stellar play. On May 1, 1997, Hasek made headlines for all the wrong reasons, when he was suspended by the NHL for three playoff games and fined $10,000 for violently grabbing Buffalo Evening News columnist Jim Kelley, who had been highly critical of him. The dispute dated back to Game 3 of Buffalo's first-round playoff series at Ottawa, when Hasek, who had pain in his right knee, had removed himself from the game with 4:27 remaining in the second period of a 1-1 tie. After the game, won by Buffalo 3-2 with Steve Shields in goal, the Sabres team doctor said Hasek had only a mild sprain of his MCL. Kelley took that information and wrote a column questioning whether Hasek was mentally stable. Kelley also said that he had information that Hasek and coach Ted Nolan were not getting along at all. He claimed that Hasek had been in an "agitated state" for several weeks and had gone AWOL from the team before a scheduled breakfast meeting. A local radio sports-talk personality added fuel to the fire by claiming that Hasek had quit on the team during Game 3.

Media personalities are the biggest scum bags on the planet. Pulling himself over injury concerns and not having a good relationship with a coach who had a bunch of ugly rumors floating around about him. HE'S MENTALLY UNSTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Idiots.
