Why is he with the twins again?

I don't know why Cogburn put Kassian with the twins, but I do it because he looked super, for a short while, before. He is a tough bodygaurd that doesn't make an ass of himself with the puck, like Rome was. An added benefit to this is that it frees Raymond to play RW with Kesler and Hansen. I think that's the new top line. Or some slight variant.

Lecavaleir absolutely not coming to Canada according to the panel on hockeycentral tonight on Sportsnet.

That's not surprising at all. Totally does not have the drive. Prefers instead to earn millions of dollars in anonymous fashion.

I certainly wouldn't complain about signing Iginla. He's not the elite player he once was, but IMO, he's still a legitimate top-six forward who may well have some incentive to sign here, what with his BC connections.

I don't see the incentive. He's probably most/only concerned with trying to win a Cup, which puts Vancouver probably around the middle of the pack in the NHL.

Vinny would be a great fit here. The Canucks will make their pitch, but the odds are stacked against them.

Your recollection is incorrect. Iginla played with Malkin/Crosby the majority of the playoffs. He was moved to the third line in the Boston series when it was clear he couldn't keep up.

His numbers were pretty good, but his on-ice play was not. He's clearly lost a step, and is essentially a 2nd/3rd line PP specialist at this point. Still has a great shot, but he's slower and train wreck in his own end.

I don't agree with this. The whole Pens team was a wreck defensively, Iginla was just a small part of it. Also, he's played RW most of his career but they preferred Neal there. He wasn't a great fit there, doesn't mean he isn't a good player anymore.

You're taking 4 games against he Bruins and using them to write Iggy off. May as well write that whole team off if that's the case.

The Canucks are currently tied with the Kings for 5th highest odds to win the cup.

It's clear Iginla can still play, but most likely (on a Cup competitive team) it's in a support role: 3rd line. Do you think he would accept that type of role, and the salary that goes with it? He would be great here (in that role) if we could get him.

Just can't envision Vinny coming to Vancouver.

Someone will pay him more.

From indications, he doesn't like the pressure of a big market/Canadian market.

Had issues with Torts.

West Coasters don't like French people besides Burrows.

Toronto is the centre of the universe and everyone wants to go there :sarcasm:

I would absolutely go after Letang if he is available. He is another level above of Edler and he has the potential to perennially be one of the best defensemen in the league. We have't had a defenseman with Letang's offense since Ehrhoff and I firmly believe that the Canucks offense has never recovered since he left via free agency. Letang is a better player than Ehrhoff or Edler and I think that this is potentially one of those rare opportunities to add a star to your team. I do not mind if it comes at the cost of Edler. And if the cap is going above $74mm next year as some executives are suggestion it might, the argument that Letang's salary would "ruin our cap" would really only be true for one season at most.

If I were GM, I would offer Edler + Jensen + 1st for a signed Letang.

Thing is I would worry how Letang would play in a Torts system.

If he let's him do his thing like Boyle in Tampa, then great.

If he wants him to play defense and block shots, not so great.

Well I'm assuming Raymond's walking, but thats pretty much my explanation. They were doing great as a line until they had one game off, and they weren't tried again. Even after a PK, the line looked strong, if not amazing, and it frees up players to play elsewhere.

IMO, that's just stupid.

How the hell can Gillis not get ANYTHING for him?

$4.2m 8th defensman, that is why.

When Cam barker, Andrew Alberts, Chris Tanev, and even Frank Corrado get more ice/responsibility it's a pretty ringing endorsement of what Ballard is worth.

Because he's a terrible hockey player making $4.2 million dollars.

Same reason Toronto couldn't get anything for Mike Komisarek.

Good riddance. He seemed like a good guy and handled his situation with class, but he's been an anchor for this team for 3 years. And not because of the coach.

I will enjoy watching that terrible player succeed with his new team this fall.

I agree. I liked ballard but he didn't score and he wasn't great at defence. We had a hole in our bottom two defencemen and he couldn't fill it. The fact that he had to be bought out is a pretty clear sign that other teams were not willing to pick him up at that contract.

Having said that, I think he can play in the NHL but he needs to get his confidence back. I wish him all the best of luck wherever he ends up. Maybe he can help a team on a lower salary and where he fits a different role.

Iginla just played on the second line of a team that went to the conference finals

Jagr was playing on the top two lines of a cup finalist

Handzus just won a cup as the Blackhawks 2nd line centre

I don't care where he plays, Iginla makes our team better.
