Sounds like there is another team in the league who do not like CHL goalers, well at least late round ones. @3:35

Their version of late is certainly different then mine. The question of how often a late round CHL goalie turns into a NHLer though is an interesting one. Here's some late round CHL goalies I've found (+4th Round):

James Reimer (4th Round)
Darcy Kuemper (6th Round)
Ray Emery (4th Round)
Philipp Grubauer (4th Round)
Mike Smith (5th Round)
Braden Holtby (4th Round)
Petr Mrazek (5th Round)
Louis Domingue (5th Round)
Laurent Brossoit (6th Round)

So not a sterling list of names that'll make you say we need to pick a late round CHL goalie. However based on previous research it fits in the "you want the best chance at a starter? Draft early" information I've found. Or in other words it doesn't really matter the league you draft them out of. It matters where you draft them just like it does for skaters.

Just some online forum rumour/talk, but apparently Kakko would like to be drafted by Colorado or Chicago. Has talked with Rantanen a bit and so forth.

Would make sense, they are from the same town and trained in the same group under Hannu Rautala last summer. Sadly he doesn't get to choose his destination :<

If we get Kakko ill be so stoked. Right now is it looking like Cozens, Turcotte, Dach competing for 3-4 overall?
If we luck out on Huges/Kakko I think id go for knight with our pick if its outside ~9. Scared to pull a 2012 and have one pick bust tho as goalies scare me.

This is the guy we want selling jerseys alongside Gabe.

He will obliterate defenders with his size and obliterate hearts with those baby blues.

If some lucky team had say picks 4 and 9 overall.. would it be worrh it for either team to trade for 2 overall (Kakko)

Doubt they would trade those picks to move up. Hughes or Kakko are very good prospects, but not worth a possible Cozens/Turcotte combo.

Trade a certain player for an extra 1st round pick, draft Knight to go with Kakko + Byram.

Enjoy your dinasty in three years.

Knight could go anywhere from 15-45, but most polls expect him around 20.

However, Goalies drafted in the 1st round are still extremely risky. Here is a list of 1st round selections since 2000.

2017 - 26 Oettinger (DAL)
2015 - 22 Samsonov (NYI)
2012 - 19 Vasilevskly (TB)
2012 - 24 Subban (BOS/LVK)

2010 - 11 Campbell (DAL/LAK)
2010 - 27 Visentin (AZN)
2008 - 18 Picard (NSH)
2008 - 30 McCollum (DET)
2006 - 11 Bernier (LAK/DET)
2006 - 15 Helenius (TB)
2006 - 23 Varlamov (WSH/COL)
2006 - 26 Irving (CGY)
2005 - 05 Price (MTL)
2005 - 21 Raask (TOR/BOS)

2004 - 06 Montoya (NYR)
2004 - 14 Dubnyk (EDM/MIN)
2004 - 17 Schwarz (STL)
2004 - 26 Schneider (VAN/NJD)
2003 - 01 Fleury (PIT/LVK)
2002 - 02 Lehtonen (ATL/DAL)
2002 - 25 Ward (CAR)

2002 - 29 Toivonen (BOS)
2001 - 08 Leclaire (CBJ)
2001 - 10 Blackburn (NYR)
2001 - 26 Bacashihua (DAL)
2001 - 29 Munro (CHI)
2000 - 01 DiPietro (NYI)
2000 - 09 Krahn (CGY)

There have been 28 Goalies selected, still playing are 11. Surprisingly, the others never played a dozen career NHL games. Goalie are difficult to predict and wary if a 1st round pick should be used if BPA. Grubs even had stellar backup numbers and struggling.

I rather the AVs pursue prospect Goalies from other teams or draft later 2nd or 3rd rounds. AVs are likely drafting Top 15, too high for Knight when lots of good players in the predicted Knight range ie. Kaliyev, Robertson or Broberg will be available.

If we only had one pick in the 1st i would probably go in another direction, but having two 1st round picks allow us to take a risk on a goalie.

Never mind if we got a third one and he is still available by the time we use the third pick.

Two of those are still developing and a number in that list had good careers. Campbell is turning into a really good backup. Goalies are no more risky than a skater... it is just if a goalie stumble, he is a backup or not in the league. A late 1st skater might get a couple years as a 3rd/4th liner or bottom pairing extra D sort.
