No. I was using Calgary as a comparison for another team that has highly prized RFAs that haven't been signed yet. Not everyone can be like Lou Lamoriello.

RFA's without arb rights can take some time to get done. Just look back at Bogosian and Kane in our recent history.

Great White North eh...
Well he said he wanted to stay here on H&L and it sounded sincere to me so perhaps the rumors are false? I will play along for fun though with the narrative. Hey allegedly Kane didn't want to play here from the start yet he busted his ass every shift? "Some" guys might not dig living here (maybe Trouba is one maybe not) but it's a big stretch to assume they won't be professional. Even if he doesn't want to be here I sign him and maximize his value and if that means he needs to suck it up and stay for a while so be it. Every team has guys on it that probably prefer being elsewhere for one reason or another....wife hates it....media fish bowl....crappy team......NOT GETTING THE MINUTES.....hate big cities. This goes with the turf of their chosen trade, They get to live anywhere they want for 3-4 months of the year but they don't get to chose where they play for 8-9 months until they are UFA's.

On a personal note I spent the first 15 years of my professional life moving from city to city to better my career and in most cases I moved to cities I didn't want to live in. I always did it and it didn't impact my job because I was professional.

It's my opinion guys like Trouba love playing hockey and competing and it would have to get really ugly for it to impact their game on the ice. Not to mention they are their brand and negative results lead to less money. Maybe they trade him maybe they don't but it's business and we only deal him if it improves our team.

Thanks for posting this. Couldn't agree more.

How about a Trouba deal structured like this:

Year Salary
1. $3.5
2. $4.5
3. $5.0
4. $5.0
5. $6.0
6. $6.0

$30 mill over 6 yrs. If Jets aren't sold on Trouba after 2+ years, trade him.

I can live with years 3 and 4 being $6 mill too, or $32 mill total on a 6 year deal, aav of $5.33.

I'd be fine with this. I generally don't care about the real world dollars though. Just the cap.

He's probably going to want more dough up front then that though. Of we did 5x4 and then 6x2 that is a six year deal for 32mil. Cap hot would be 5.33

I still think he should only be making the same as Reilly over a 6 year deal though.

I think it's a bit of an overpay as you've proposed it but likely very close to how it's actually structured. I'd go 3.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.0, 6.0, 6.0. 28.5 over 6 years; AAV 4.75.

This puts him at the high end of deals signed by comparable players in a similar situation, behind only Hamilton and Reilly.

6 years at $5.0 AAV seems like a fair deal to me. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'd pay for the full 8 years. $6.25m AAV.

It'll be interesting to see where the final number lands. I'd rather see it south of 6, but I am not confident that it will.

If I was the Jets I'd be pushing the notion that those first two years are only worth about 3 million per - the same money that you'd expect on a show me deal using the Murray deal as a guide.

Six Year Deal:

6 million (2 years at 3 million)
+
28 million (4 years at 7 million)
=
34 million (5.66666666667 AAV)

8 Year Deal:

6 million (2 years at 3 million)
+
42 million (6 years at 7 million)
=
48 million (6 AAV)

I'd say assuming 7 MM for the remaining years of the deal is pretty fair.

I'd like it but I don't think Trouba signes it. Unless Lindholm and Jones end up signing for less I can't see him accpeting anything less than the Hamilton deal which is:
1: 5.5
2: 5.5
3: 5.75
4: 5.75
5: 6.0
6: 6.0

Add a year 7 which I think will be higher
7: 7.5

Brings us to 7 years 6 million per.

His initial ask will be higher because it's always higher than where you hope to end up.

If he's okay with 6x$5m, and compared to Rielly's deal, that's $10m per for the last two. :whatever:

He might go for that, but I doubt the Jets do. 6 years is probably what happens because there is inherent risk for the Jets in the later years especially that he never turns into a 10m dollar player. So they will want to keep the number lower.

Trouba will roll the dice with the taking a six year deal so he can take another big money long term contract while he is still in his prime years. The Jets won't pay him then premium that he might be worth then, right now.

Not gonna happen.

That is the hard top end. By rights it should be a little less, IMO - 6 years 29-29.5 but I could see 30.

What would come back?

I think there's just an echo chamber in the media now about Trouba. One or two reporters throw it out there without any concrete information and the rest of the media feed on it until the situation is resolved.

Somebody in Boston must have leaked that to Haggerty.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, is there just smoke or is there fire? One thing we know is Chevy is patient to a fault.

Chevy will address the media in an hour. I doubt he'll anawer questions on this in any meaningful way though.

I have no idea why he is addressing the media I just know it will be boring. I was wondering if they were going to announce the new associate coach now that Yeo and Kitty are hired? :sarcasm:
