So with the stories out there that DK told Sweeney weeks ago he wasn’t coming back, does that change anyone’s view on how his free agent spending spree looks? If he knew and still didn’t address it that makes me even more angry than if he had assumed Krejci was coming back. At least if thought that he was trying to improve the roster. With Sweeney knowing he wasn’t that makes his signing of bottom of the roster types even more negligent

100%. I was willing to cut him slack if the decision came down to the wire later in the offseason and he truly didn't know and was leaving his options open, but that it came so soon after the start of free agency, I have a hard time believing he didn't know this whole time. It makes his decision to prioritize depth over addressing the massive hole at 2C even more indefensible. He's not going "all in" at all, he's guiding the team toward mediocrity to maintain his position.

I am one of the few here who think Charlie Coyle can be a second line Center but that belief is based on him having two highly skilled play driving wingers. If Krejci wasn’t coming back then he needed to go after someone like Garland to play with Coyle. I don’t know if Smith is enough.

If you knew Krejci was gone before free agency, how the F do you not come away with one of Danault/Coleman in FA?

He addressed some of that last season by signing Smith, but then Smith ended up having to be used in the top 6. Losing Smitty to the top 6 combined with Coyle and the 4th line being doody, yeah you're right about the bottom 6 for sure. Now with 46 gone, it looks like one of the bottom 6 guys will be slotted into 2C. Have to assume at least one of the four actual top 6 talents will be injured at some point, meaning yet another bottom 6 player will have to fill in. Not so sure the bottom 6 is actually fixed at this point given the lack of depth of the organization. Could end up being a pretty big mess.

It’s changed my opinion on Sweeney quite a bit. Not only did he fail to replace Krejci, he pissed away the last 5 or so seasons of Krejci’s career. After all this f***ing time of fans saying we need to get Krejci a scoring wing he finally gets Hall so we can really see what we’ve been missing all these years. Pathetic.

At this point you almost have to throw him to the wolves and hope for the best even if he struggles quite a bit early on. Just not sure he can physically handle it based on what I saw last season. Can't rule out another move or two either, so there's that. Whew, this is going to be an, uh, interesting season.

I still say B grade. Work to be done to fill Krejci’s spot and I think Sweeney couldn’t make a move for a C without knowing what we will found out today…..

Without Krejci we are now the underdogs and no longer considered contenders imo. Sweeney screwed up big time especially if he knew about this decision before FA started.

Feels like we’ve seen the last of giving Bergeron legitimate shots at the Stanley Cup.

Sweeney inherited a team good enough to be competitive. But not taking advantage of the last 5-6 years of this core’s window has been a pretty huge failure on his part. So many missed opportunities to set this team up as a contender for the next decade.

I was already upset that they had $20m and the two biggest needs were 3rd line RW and top pairing LHD and neither of those were addressed. Now we have confirmation that krejci won’t be back.

Then they go out and add three guys in foligno, nosek and haula who had 7, 8 and 9 goals last year and don’t have cap space unless players are moved.

Just terrible asset management. Cannot wait for Sweeney and Neely to be gone. This stinks of 2018 additions of Nordstrom, Wagner and John moore all over again, except these guys are slightly better, but overall not even close to what needed to be addressed.

I don’t get the “Was an A until the Krejci news” comments...anyone look at the left side of our defense? Three bottom pair or at best #4 defensemen. It was a problem last year and has been a problem for a few seasons and Sweeney still wont address it.

Changed my score to D for desperation. There was no real thought process from Sweeney, it was I have cap space so I’ll just grab a bunch of tweener guys and hope for the best.
