Would be shocked if Mason doesn't end up in Vancouver on a big multi-year deal now that Miller is leaving.

I'm guessing 4 X $4.5

If Montreal wants Giroux so badly - I'd trade him for Carey Price and their 2018 2nd.:sarcasm:

I would prefer Bernier but all along my preference was Bernier followed by Elliott and I don't see a big difference between the two at all. Elliott is probably the safe and more solid option, although I still think there is a chance for Bernier to become a really good starting goalie in th eright situation. If it's Elliott you can probably bank on a true tandem with Nevuirth where the two split starts almost right down the middle.

Good luck in Vancouver or Winnipeg Steve, hopefully they proclaim you the "number 1 goalie" and shower you with the love and constant reassurance that you obviously need.

2.75 is absolutely fantastic. I'm a little surprised they are willing to go over two years though.

They likely look at it that:
this year is split duties
2 years he is the starter, young guy the backup
3 years he is the backup, young guy the starter

Going 3 years should never really been an issue.

The number is fine, I'm not crazy about 3 years though.

But if you're theory is that Brian Elliott is the western conference Steve Mason, that's a lot less than Mason was making. Basically gives Stolarz no shot to make the team in 2018 though, unless there's a buyout or retirement or LTIR involved.

How is $2.75m awful for a guy who averages .919 and plays about 40 games over the past four years?

Neuvirth averages .914 and averages 26 games, and he's $2.5m.

I guess two years as split starter with Neuvirth and then after that as a mentor to the young goalie who likely replaces Neuvirth.

Neuvirth will hopefully be replaced by Stolarz in 18-19. Otherwise Stolie has to be moved or put on waivers.

Yep, ,Striker said that above and it's a good point. No need to just throw some kid to the Wolves completely by year three. Plus 2.75 million is barely starting goalie money so even if he ends as the backup that's not a problem.

That would be a perfect case where an option year would be beneficial to both sides. Hope they bring that back in the next CBA.
